NEED ADVICE! 1.3GHz 1GB RAM enough for 5 in/4 out streaming?

Hi,

I am thinking about buying an Edirol UA-101 USB 2.0 sound card for my laptop PC. Specifically, I would like to stream two stereo channels and one mono channel into Ableton Live, and at the same time, stream 2 stereo channels out at 16 bits. Of course, at the same time, I'd like to be able to run a few audio tracks/soft synths in Live.

My laptop specs are 1.3 GHz Intel Celeron Processor with 1GB RAM, running XP Professional. Is this enough?

Please let me know your experiences on this, so far I've only been using a simple stereo USB 1.1 card.

On a slightly different note: I had some trouble with a USB 1.1 card on this laptop earlier, maybe related to the bus powering. The sound card would not only pop/crackle annoyingly, it would also sometimes shut down for half a second or so! Really weird. I'm thinking that maybe I should buy a separate PCMIA card with additional USB 2.0 ports and then plug the UA-101 into this, which should put the sound card on a separate IRQ in the PC.

Any thoughts on this, or similar experiences? If so, how did you solve the problem?

System requirements state that it will work on a Pentium III, Pentium 4 or Pentium M Processor @ 1.2 GHz with 256MB ram.

What exact type of Celeron processor do you have? Is your Celeron a dual core by any chance? If yours is a single core, then there's a chances your laptop is a bit underpowered to run your fav effects and softsynths at the same time. Maybe it's time to upgrade that laptop to something with more CPU power.

If this is your only USB device then you don't need an extra PCMCIA USB2.0 card.

Since the Edirol UA101 has it's own 9V power supply (it needs 1A and USB can only deliver a tenth of that) bus power is no issue. It doesn't use it.
