THIS is why Kontakt rocks- Chris Hein and Scarbee

I bought Black Bass a while back, and love it to death.

Then last night, my wife and I decided on how much to spend for Valentine's Day. I bought Chris Hein Fretless Bass. When I got done downloading it, I fell in love with it.

So it got me to thinking. I love Kontakt. I just can't imagine even for a second using another sampler. And it's not just because of the basics like sample import and such(although it imports more than anything else), but when you add in the scripting and the ability for devs to literally create their own plugin with multiple pages and dozens of options and interactive interfaces, Kontakt is just simply KING.

You can't do this stuff with anything else outside of a dedicated player, but why would you want to since Kontakt gives you the ability to edit things so heavily?

Black Bass and Chris Hein Fretless Bass are absolutely superb libraries. The sheer amount of sounds you can get out of them without even opening up the editing parts of Kontakt is amazing. I will post more detailed reviews later, but for now I'll leave it at this: these are THE most playable, controllable libraries I've ever seen, and highly doubt that anything comes close.

Anyways, I'm officially a Kontakt fanboy. All other samplers suck in comparison(IMO, of course!). And that, my friend, is hard to argue against(also IMO, of course!).

Ok, flame away. My sampler is better than yours!

Which other samplers have you tried?

Halion, Short Circuit, various free samplers, NNXT, MachFive briefly, and an old version of Gigastudio.

But even then, I've not seen one sampler that features abilities that let you do what has been done with libraries like the ones I mentioned.

Maybe that's why most sample devs prefer Kontakt as well.

I haven't tried a lot of other samples (VSampler), but I agree. The ability of scripting to play sample libraries in real time like an actual instrument is what makes Kontakt so powerful. I have Scarbee's Black Bass. That is a great example of what can be done. I have heard the Chris Hein's Guitars does this to. Prominy's LPC's Superperformance Multi is essential, in my view, to make the library great.

But, then again Realguitar (based on a non-Kontakt proprietary engine)has not been beat on the acoustic guitar front, I think.

RealGuitar may not have been beaten, but I am confident that almost everything it does, if not everything, can be done with scripting in Kontakt. Looking at Chris Hein Bass that I downloaded last night(Fretless only, of course), the amount of options are astounding. Even more to edit than Black Bass. 112 parameters that can be automated directly, and the ability to customize hotkeys on your keyboard directly from the interface and such. It's amazing.

Then the fretboard display on Black Bass and all the playing styles that can be fit into your playing with no keyswitches(all but two articulations). It just blows me away. Maybe I'm missing something elsewhere, but I would almost call this a challenge to find another sampler that can compare.

there's many a good filter out there but the best i have heard on a sampler where not in Kontakt (haven't tested V3 yet)

have always liked Kontakt's work flow though!!

Well I won't say that every single part of Kontakt is better than every part in another sampler. Obviously there will be different filters and such(although the latest effects in Kontakt are fantastic).

I'm just speaking overall.

I haven't, but it runs on the same scripts and techniques as Black Bass. So it MUST be fantastic.

And it's Scarbee. His instruments are ALWAYS very well done, some of the best.

It's a shame that Kontakt is a bloated and annoying memory hog. Hopefully someone will come up with something better written than Kontakt with similar features.

for the record emuX's work flow is way behind Kontakt 2 IMO

i'm glad your happy with kontakt 3

hopefully emulatorX 2.5 will bring me the same sort of joy

I bought Scarbee bass stuff, which has a great sound - but it's a bit of a math degree to get into the editing of which string to play at which moment.

It is logical but also a mind-numbingly non-musical process.

If you have the old J Slap n Fingered library but have not upgraded it to Red Bass or bought Black bass you won't realise how much more playable they are now. If you want to play slides live there are rules you have to grapple with but for general jamming/improvised parts the new scripting setup rules.
