Soundfont Player to replace sfz

Has anyone found a better soundfont player than sfz? Unfortunatly sfz will crash if you use more than 2 or 3 instances of it in a receptor. I have lots of great soundfonts that I'd like to use in snapshot banks, or for layering really fat patches.

Hello,

Discovery Pro does support SoundFont playback. Just copy sf2 files to Discovery Pro Data folder and load them using the WAVE section.

Discovery Pro also has a native Receptor version. More info at http://www.discodsp.com/discoverypro/

Cheers,
George.

I found a good basic soundfont player that doesn't crash, and works well in multiple instances on the receptor. http://fantasize.syntheway.net/

Fantasize doesn't crash my receptor either, but for me, I haven't been able to make it recall the soundfont file of my choice in a snapshot.

Of course I may be missing something here, but for now, my work around is to convert the .sf2 file and play it with Kontakt.

Shortcircuit does soundfonts and it's free. www.vemberware.com

Hi Chrisma,

Thank you for the tip! I will try Short Circuit on my Receptor! Are you able to run multiple instances of it? Also, the possibility for using SFZ files sounds interesting.

This is a great forum. I found out that the stability issues of my Receptor are caused by using multiple SFZ instances. I had two banks with four instances of SFZ that always caused trouble. After removing two SFZ instances everything works perfect! :-)

I will do some more tests, but it looks really promising. Of course, during gigs I have to be able to rely on my Receptor...

I downloaded the Fantasize demo. Seems to be a usable and nice VSTi.
However, the site download track and directed options are tacky , tacky , tacky !!!
If you have patience for pop-up, imbedded adds, backended shadowed add screens and advertisig manipulation and such, then this site and process is for you. . . tacky !

After trying shortcircuit I have to say I am really impressed with this program. It's free, has a small footprint, seems to be very stable and doesn't have any problem with session recall.

Finally I have an easy way to audition all those soundfont files I have on my hard disk!

I installed shortcircuit and cannot figure out how to load a soundfont. No manual either. Plus it eats more system resources than Fantasize. Fantasize will recall soundfonts in snapshots. Make sure you see the soundfont loaded in the patch window of the Fantasize gui (the default patch is rock organ). If you then save the bank and patch as new in the receptor, and also save the snapshot bank, it will recall the soundfont.

Hi dudegruvy,

Try shortcircuit 1 instead of shortcircuit 2...

Good luck,
