I just got SampleTron about one hour ago (after waiting so long haha) I've owned Squids Tron Vol. 1 since it came out - my 'one hour' impression is that SampleTron is made cleaner and more diverse - except, Squids Tron Vol 1 seemed to have more messed up dirty stuff (SampleTron has it, too, but Tron Vol 1 has some out there stuff) - the flip side is that there's so much mangling you can do with SampleTron (you can do mangling with SampleTank, too, i know) - haha I'm glad I have bothbapu wrote:Are these the same or is one a subset of the other?
I purchased Squids Tron Vol 1, btw.

There are some sounds in Squids Tron that are identical to the demo of SampleTron. This would lead me to hope there would someday be an 'upgrade' price from the former to the latter.

There's a comment by Squids about this in the rare/vintage group buy thread in the Marketplace.thenumber23 wrote:There are some sounds in Squids Tron that are identical to the demo of SampleTron. This would lead me to hope there would someday be an 'upgrade' price from the former to the latter.

This page here. I'll just repeat what I said more or less. What I said was that the Quirky Instruments and NL (non looped stuff) is not in SampleTron (from Squids Tron). SampleTron does the purist 8 seconds with no loop a different way (Which is controlled by a knob called "Sus" where if you turn to the left it plays for 8 secs then stops and turn to the right and it loops forever). But the original NL is cool because they do quirky things when the tape stops... so Squids Tron has a little more "raw" tape noise type stuff on it and warblier, wowier stuff on it. It also has the extra Harmonium and Toy Piano stuff on it that are not in SampleTron.thenumber23 wrote:Which page?dougsyo wrote:There's a comment by Squids about this in the rare/vintage group buy thread in the Marketplace.
Now, SampleTron has a lot of things that Squids Tron didn't have. Chamberlins, Chamberlin Rhythmate, Mellotron Sound Sales Powehouse, various Mellotrons including a 300 and a MK2... all sorts of new sounds!
Beyond that we have some unreleased cool tron-family sounds. So we may make them available as an "extra" download.... possibly pair it up with the non-Squids Tron Vol. 1 material and call that Squids Tron 2. But we don't want to confuse so when I get back in town (doing sessions all week with Ken Scott) I will try to put together the list so you can compare.
