any chord in particular.
I was looking thru my chord book the other day and came across a chord I just wont use. The Maj7.
I never use it, and I really dislike the sound of it and always have ever since I first heard it.

A major aversion to plain old 5th chords. They're sooo boring and unsuspenseful. I have to remind myself that sometimes they're just the right chord for the job.

Maj7 can sound very very sweet to my ear ..... more so than a stock Maj triad.
But i totally agree that Whole Tone/Augmented scales and chords leave me quite cold unless the composer has taken extra care with their application.
and even then, ill prefer to sub the Aug chord with a something more tonally palatable (to me).

I loathe major keys and much prefer minor keys myself but i just LOVE the sound of diatonic major chords WITHIN a minor key song (bIII,V7,bVI and sometimes bVII or bVII7)jonnyG wrote:Major keys. I guess I'm a melancholy kind of guy.
It seems to make them sound "minor" to my ear.

Any major chord with #9.
It's disgusting. May have to do with my lack of knowledge of practical (jazz) chord voicings, though.
Maj7 may be my favourite chord. Wistful and dreamy.

I only dislike certain chords in case they don't suit whatever context.

YEAH! I agree ...fkn 9ths!!!! ... Its not the chord I have a prob with, its just eso many bloody tracks which claim to be 'chill', 'new age', 'ambient', 'relaxation' etc seem to kick off with a soft pad, playing a 9th .... and almost invariably move onto a chord 2 and a half tones higher, leaving the '9th' note hanging in there .... so becoming a 6th.
Errr hello? There's a difference between 'chill' and monotony!
