Sampletank (and SS2, etc) issue in Ableton Live ??

I have Ableton Live 7.0.7 and Sampletank 2.5.

Seems Sampletank (and everything built using it i.e. Sonic Synth 2) is incompatible for me. With ST/SS enabled in Live, I get constant crashes (every few minutes).

Ableton support suggested removal of the ST/SS dlls, and I haven't crashed in a few hours. People in the Ableton forums report both success and failure with ST 2.5.

Just posting here in hopes someone might have ideas/suggestions. I've invested a lot in esoundz GBs over the last six months, and at this point, it seems I may be unable to use any of it in Live.

I've been running Live for the last three days with the IK stuff (ST/SS) removed. So far, not a single crash (when it was crashing every few minutes before) It seems that ST/SS are not compatible with Live on my system.

I wish it were otherwise, I've sunk a LOT of money into GBs over the last six months, and I was going to pick up SampleTron and SampleMoog with the current promo. But of course, they are useless if they crash Live.

Very discouraging.

If anyone has any advice on how to get these products to work in Live, I'd sure appreciate hearing it.

I have this same problem with Kontakt 3 in Live, using 7.0.7. Hopefully Ableton will release an update to fix the issue. For now I've been running Kontakt within EnergyXT VSTi as a workaround.

The only similarity in our setups I can see if that we are both running XP SP3, and I did just get Kontakt after installing SP3, so I'm unsure how it performs in SP2. Think it's possible Live 7 has certain incompatibilities with SP3?

I'm getting Samplemoog and Sampletron today, I'll let you know if they work for me in Live.

I understand the issues with ST/SS go back a ways. Searching the ableton forum, ST specific issues seem to exist well before XP SP3. I'm sure I won't get any further with the issue on my PC than each company pointing to the other as the problem. Ugg.

You mention Energy XT, and I've heard others have had luck with ST in this way. Do you know if XT "core" would work in this way?

Please post your experiences with moog/tron. I wanted to buy them, but I would rather skip them, than deal with more crashes.

If EnergyXT Core comes with a VSTi version I'm sure you can use it to host Sampletank within Live.

I'll probably be going through all the sounds in samplemoog and tron tonight so I'm sure I'll have them open for at least an hour or 2. That should be a good enough test to make sure they are stable in Live.

I've been running Samplemoog for about an hour now going through the sounds. It sounds really great and has been running in Live 7.0.7 with no problems at all.

unfortunate. I've been crash free for two full weeks since removing Sampletank and Sonic Synth. I was hoping you were having luck, guess it is a widespread problem.

Did you try running them via the EnergyXT VSTi? I was hoping this might work for me.

Based on the responses I got from their support, and from your link: (We are not able to verify the problem. Please contact us, if you can reproduce this problem reliably and also contact the IK Multimedia support.)

Doesn't sound like a fix is coming soon. I would guess maybe the next major version roll of IK or Live.

Ehh. Kind of a why bother thing for me. I'm not interested in "testing", I just want to be productive and write music. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but it's an acknowledged problem, what can I really do other than GIVE IK and Ableton hour after hour of my time. I went down this path with Sonar and UAD. Spent way too much time and ultimately dumped sonar. If someone had some proven workarounds, or I really believed my helping them would make a short term difference. Over the years I've gotten tired of troubleshooting software problems for developers.


I've written three songs over the last 2 weeks because my software is stable. No crashes. I dread dragging the dll back into the vst folder and watching it crash yet again, when I think about having only a limited number of hours on this planet, it seems smarter to dump ST and move on.

guess thats what happens when you get old :D

Komplete is on super sale till the end of the month. I need to decide if ST stays or goes.

Yeah it works fine when I use it through the EngergyXT VSTi. I've been using the 7.0.9 Live beta for a week now and haven't had any problems with samplemoog or sampletron. I'm sure that update will be official pretty soon.
