hi

kinda new to this sort of software in general,

Do I just select .wav file to record, instrument, open virtual keyboard, hit record then compose it interactively with the virtual keyboard?

I can only use one instrument at a time and this is not like the other tracker programs or am I missing something? :help:

ZynAddSubFX is not a tracker or sequencer at all...its a VST instrument, meaning that you load it into a VST host, send it midi, and it generates sound.

There is a "record" button on the GUI - I've never used it, but I imagine it is for recording wav files for a patch

ahh ok thanks, that makes sense, so it would seem I can use it with something like Rosegarden http://rosegarden.sourceforge.net/tutor ... n/zyn.html (http://rosegarden.sourceforge.net/tutorial/supplemental/zyn/zyn.html)

I will try this :)

ps. what happened to the original author o fZynAddSubFX?

To be more precise, Zyn. can be used as a VSTi, or it can be used as a stand-alone multi-timbral synth (which is the better way to use it with Rosegarden).

When it first starts (in stand-alone mode) it will put you in 'beginner' mode where you have a simple keyborad you can play with, and access to different intruments. However, after a quick play around the first thing to do is to click on 'Misc' and switch interface mode to 'Advanced'.

You can have up to the standard 16 completely independent MIDI channels. However if you really delve into Zyn. you will find that these can each consist of up to 16 voice parts covering the same, or different parts on the musical spectrum.

If you run under Jack, you can also have multiple instances of Zyn (up to your processors capabilities) so there are pretty much no limits :)

Paul shows up occasionally on various forums, but doesn't appear to be developing Zyn. any further, which is a great shame. I believe there is some work being done 'under the radar' however.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?
