Can anyone recommend any online articles that run you through some processes to help you optimise the performance of your laptop/computer ofr music production?

Stuff like turning off system sounds etc.

It would be much appreciated as I've just had to restore my laptop to its factory settings due to a particularly pernicious trojan virus.

There used to be a list on http://www.musicxp.net but it was fairly dated, it had mostly irrelevant tweaks and now you have to register to read it.

The most important tweaks are imho:
* set processing priority to "background services"
* turn off all the eye candy
* turn off wireless LAN
* turn off disk indexing

Never follow recommendations blindly, always keep your brain switched on. For instance, musicxp recommended to disable the System Restore feature. It only kicks in while installing or changing stuff. And it saved my ass on more than one occasion. So I decided to keep it. Same for the onboard sound chip. I like windows default sounds coming from the PC itself and not from my monitoring speakers. They are too loud for that, and I want to keep them and not run a totally silent sound scheme as they advised.

I'm not sure why some sites don't mention it, but in my system, the two biggest culprits are WiFi and Windows Defender. Previously, I used to just turn WiFi off and use Wise Memory Optimizer. Only recently I learned I also had to disable Real-Time Protection in Defender. These tweaks, as well as several others, made my LatencyMon happy.
