Transparent reverb?

CSR and AAR seem to be good at dense reverb sounds to my ears, while VariVerb Pro seems better at subtle, transparent reverb. Now VariVerb Pro is a bit expensive and not quite stable yet. Do you know of any alternatives that would give similar characters but cheap or free?
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

Perhaps Fusion Field?

That's what i was going to suggest.
It is a very smooth reverb, low on cpu. Perfect for huge and sweet reverb tails, but it can also be more soft (shorter tails, i mean, discrete efx).

Wizooverb (now discontinued but still can be bought i'm sure) and Uad plate-140 (you'll need to buy a cheap uad card thats used so you won't pay so much) are both transparent sounding.

Warmverb by Tone2 is'nt exactly transparent but preserves the original source better then most algo verbs and has a nice sense of depth. anwida dx verb is transparent but not as good sounding as Variverb imo.
T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try them out. I've tried WizooVerb before and remember quite liking it, but the discontinued status and its multicore issue concern me a bit. I can't try UAD though as I use laptop.

You can probably make any reverb transparent, just mix a lot of dry signal into it and adjust the tail lower, adjust pre-delay to "pop out" the instrument even more.

subtractive eq your reverb send

Lower the density, roll off the low end, or lower the tail. Many ways to make a reverb more "transparent". Most reverbs have at least one of these things available, so make sure you don't buy something new when you may already have it.

no. And at first, I didn't know what you meant by transparent, but I get the jist of it now.

Now, to my knowledge, VVP and AAR are about the same price.........no?

I'm really not an expert, but I really like the free anwida reverb. few controls, and i found it very "transparent " with few controls.

I think we should make it clear that the OP really isn't wanting a "transparent" reverb. I think the better term is "lighter" or "more sparse". There is a difference.

Make sure not to use early reflections and EQ the send as said before. I've had good results with focusrite safire reverb, not exactly free though. But it is extremely clean.

Well, Virsyn Reflect (for algo) or Yellowtools Origami (for IR) ...

For the UADs I would more lean to DreamVerb for transparent sound ....

best

OT a bit: does it matter if the EQ is before or after the reverb? I've always used one after, to EQ the tail. But has anyone noticed a distinct, musical difference with it EQing the material before the reverb?

I just listened to the demos very nice.
Realistic or rich but I don't know about transparent...but then again saffire is unrealistically clean. However I might be misunderstanding the op.
