The release of RMV for Mac OS X deserves a new thread, so here it is. Feel free to share your experience.

Initial reports show possible problems with REX shared library, you can download update here:

UPDATE: Full and demo installers have been updated to include latest REX shared library to avoid mentioned problems.

It looks like this thing has great potential, but is it just me or when you hit the pads u just don't get a quick enough response?

Are there ways to cure this :

Where do the samples load themselves?

Are we able to move the sample library? (i've got seperate hard drives for my samples...

Are the samples triggered real time off of the hard drive or are they loaded into memory?

I'm doing a comparison to ultrabeat in logic and I can hit my padknotrol pad as fast as i like and ultrabeat keeps up (the first hit doesn't normally work but i guess it needs to load itself into memory first)

No slouch of comp here

Macpro dual 2.8 ghz processors
16gb of ram
Raptor as my boot drive (this is where the samples are stored)
Seagate 1tb 32mb cache for samples and projects

:help:

Yes, you can move the sample library and/or you can add more folder if you want, on the setup page you add/remove your folder...

From the manual side 137...
Directory Paths
The Directory Paths Setup section is used to set the default directory paths that the RMV's
Sample Browser displays when it is opened. The Directory name is listed on the left of the
display, while the directory path is listed on the right of the display.

The Directory Paths Setup section contains two controls: Add and Remove.
Add: Clicking on the Add control opens a browser that enables a new
directory to be added to the default Sample directories.
Remove: The Remove ("-") control, located at the right of the directory path.
Clicking on the Remove control removes the directory from the
default Sample directories.
I still have an external HardDrive but i have not tested so far if all the samples were completly loaded into the ram or not...

But i will try that later...

But as far as i remember to work with a external drive, if you finished loading from this drive the HD will start to sleep, but if you start to load sampels from an other drive again or if Logic tried to start loading from somewhere else, the HD will wake up... So in my opinion it's not necessary that RM5 is loading everything completly into the ram...

I think you asked this because you want to load everything into RM5 and then you want to turn off the external HD, this won't work, I'm sure, this won't work...

What is your I/O Buffer Size setting (in Preferences > Audio > Devices > CoreAudio)? The larger the value, the larger the latency of real-time MIDI performance of AudioUnits will be. It does not relate to pre-recorded MIDI.

Post

I've got it set on 256 samples (fairly low).

But i've done a comparison with ultrabeat and ultrabeat doesn't share this related midi performance issue.

Is there a setting on RMV which makes a hit on the padkontrol set off a hit for it's full sample time rather than every time I hit the padkontrol the next next hit would stop the previous hit (if you know what I mean)

Downloaded the fxpansion guru demo and it does not have this problem as well so something sup with the demo of RMV for me, sorry guys

Bug:
The 'ride' instrument's mix button is the wrong way round - noise is on the left but a full-right on the knob mutes the oscillator.

A small one but every little helps! :)

edit-

this may not even be a bug: if I set two pads to the same choke group, both playing the synth ride, one with a long decay and one with a short decay, the long ride is not muted. should I expect it to mute?

cheers :)

Feature Request:
On loading a kit with empty pad names, the text 'Empty' appears.

Can you please remove this feature, or at least add an option to turn it off?

Bug Report:
More often than not, it seems, RMV does not allow playback of pads recently loaded with a wav file. For example: empty pad, make it a 'sampler', click on the folder icon to browse the directory, double-click a wav file to load it, trigger the pad from an external keyboard or midi track, no sound.

cheers :)

Bug report:

I'm creating a bunch of sampled based kits, and I have noticed that on reopening RMV the following day it has duplicated many of the kits in their various states of completion with the same name. Of course, I answered 'Yes' to 'Do you want to overwrite this kit?'

to recreate:
- load empty kit
- load a sample into a pad
- name kit and save
- modify kit
- save with same name
- re-load RMV
- observe duplicate kits

I also found a work-around to remove the extra kits:
- close host
- move kits from /Library/Application Support/LinPlug/RM V Drum Addiction/RM V Kits/ to desktop
- reopen host
- load RMV
- observe missing kits
- close host
- move kit files back
- reopen host
- load RMV
- duplicate kits removed, single kit remains

I hope this is enough information to help you find a solution; please let me know otherwise.

cheers :)

This bug deserves restating. If you open the Empty kit or make a new one of your own, none of the pads will sound a loaded WAV file unless you change the trigger key to a different value and put it back to the original value. I have set up several new kits and every time had to change the trigger keys. This is easily worked around but plain annoying and boring to do every time.

Hardware??? Software??? So many choices....

The trigger not being working will be fixed in next update, which we prepare for beta test.
