Importing other file formats into RM V

Just upgrading from RM3 to RMV and I want to be able to use my existing kits (.DS3 and some LM4 ones too). How do I go about importing them? I have clicked the 'Import' button in the librarian, but no files show up in the file dialog (only file filter says 'Kits'). If I type in the filename, the .DS3 causes RM V (and Reaper) to crash and the LM4 kits are ignored. Bug or user error? (The latter I dare say!)
