A friend just hipped me to the trailer for Mellodrama, a documentary on the Mellotron and Chamberlin -

Looks like it's being taken to some festivals over the next few months and will see a DVD release in the fall. I really look forward to it. Here's a list of the people interviewed in the film:

Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), Rod Argent (The Zombies), David Biro (Birotron), Jon Brion (Producer/Composer), Jesse Carmichael (Maroon 5), Richard Chamberlin (The Chamberlin Company), Damon Fox (Big Elf), Mitchell Froom (Producer), Steve Frothingham (Big Elf), Pea Hicks (Optiganally Yours), Woody Jackson (Musician), David Kean (Mellotron Archives), Brian Kehew (Author Recording the Beatles, Musician), Ian McDonald (King Crimson), Patrick Moraz (Refugee, Yes, The Moody Blues), Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Michael Penn (Recording Artist), Mike Pinder (The Moody Blues), Markus Resch (Mellotron Archives), Tom Rhea (Berklee School of Music), Matthew Sweet (Recording Artist), Geoff Unwinn (Mellotronics), Patrick Warren (Musician), Per Wiberg (Opeth), Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys)

And here's the trailer:
"If it's where the heart is, how come you're never home?"

It does look interesting, but unfortunately Streetly Electronics, the creators of the Mellotron and their new M4000 and M5000 cycling Mellotrons, won't be represented. :(

This looks like a really interesting show. I hope I get a chance to see the whole thing.

Yeah, i suppose it's a US-based doco so many Brits who were important to this instrument are bound to be missing - especially the Proggers Tony Banks and Rick Wakeman, and of course John Bradley.

Still worth a punt though.

Yeah, I saw that. Looks really cool. They should have contacted me. I could have helped them get more on those subjects (not to mention a take on new technology versions). Ironically I know a bunch of the people in the film but no one said anything. I just saw Brian Kehew a few days ago and he didn't say a word! Strange. Or maybe he did and I somehow missed it. He always has a lot of things going on. I could have sworn there was some sort of movie he was talking about but I thought it was on something else... in fact, I think that's happening too. The man is busy! You've probably all seen this: www.recordingthebeatles.com What a book!

I want one! Fit in a backpack? Or are they towed behind the bike?

I think towing one might scratch it up a bit, but if your backpack is large enough ... :D
