Could you tell me the chords and give me a brief analysis of this track.

http://www.subtleinc.net/elementfour.mp3

I really want to learn to play this track, but i have no ears for hearing notes and chords.

Would be appreciated.

That is very disharmonic. I want to guess key of A minor, but its so de-tuned its slightly hard.

Meh... A C B G E, or any combo of that.

I'm going by the pads, once the other sounds come in, it gets really hard. C, G? C# even...

If you have the presets, it would make it a lot easier. Cause then you can just jam with it, till you match it. It would be a piece of cake, with the sound design.

As for analysis?

Cool sound design, great beat, 5 notes. What else is new?

Thanks for posting.

I think its very hard to tell, cause there is so much going on.

But, you say disharmonic ? i dont quite understand why u would say that, i think its melodic as hell... one of the best melodies ive ever heard.

So im trying to understand WHY i think the melody is so good.

And only 5 notes too huh ?

Post

Well its melodic, but its very de-tuned, is what I'm saying.

I think a#minor.
a 2 finger riff which is heavily gated but the raw notes are probably.

d#f# a#f d#g# d#f# c#g# c#f# c#f fa#

Thank u very much.

Im trying to play the riff, but i cant hear if its correct, its very detuned too so im having problems finding the right sound.

Will keep on trying though.

This is the melody as notes:

And in a piano roll:

The chords are Eb min and Bb min, so it could be in Bb natural minor or in Eb dorian minor, I'd say the latter.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

What is this detuned rubbish you're ll going on about? It's four notes (like any good riff):
F# down to E back to F# G# A#
or
Gb E Gb Ab Bb if you prefer.

This example uses 6 notes. Anyway the first screen shows the ungated note data.

I've basically chopped up the pattern but a trancegate would suffice.

The above is all very basic and obviously doesn't include all the bells and whistles but its close. What a difference a few more subtle voices and good rythm choice make to the riff which imo is a true classic.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Aquar: Wow, just wow.. Good job! got goosebumps by listening to your sample, and seems to be the exact everything. Really cool.. thanks!

How they were able to make this a 10 minute epic track out of a 4 bar riff impressive.

So just to be sure, this is the correct chords and bass right ?

"epic" is in the ear of the beholder ;)

To me it does sound like a 4 bar riff repeating forever, but aquar's version does indeed sound very close.

Yeah indeed it is, but for me its one of the most epic trance tracks ever made.

Just for your information, this was the official track for the UK TV show Big Brother in 2000, that version contained vocals and whatnot.

Never heard of that show until I googled it a few moments ago.

So you are trying to re-create the track? how did aquar's midi file worked for you?

The MIDI worked perfectly, i initially wanted to be able to play the track on my keyboard (which is gonna demand some training)
And to try and understand what makes it so good.
Im gonna try and see if i could remix it too, but there are so many things about the original tracks atmosphere that i simply think is impossible to recreate.
