Hello.

I am using XT2 on Linux via Wine + WineASIO.

Older versions of XT2 - up to june beta - worked all right here.
I am still using this version, as every recent version that I have tried crashes when I try to record audio into a sequencer.

I mentioned this already in an other thread, but I will try to give extra information here.

Apparently other people using XT2 via Wine do not get this error ? Still, this error happens very consistently here, after a few seconds of audio recording. It happens with XT versions:

14nov beta,
2.5,
january beta
and february beta.

I have updated to several different versions of Wine/WineASIO, and the problem happens just the same. I should mention that, every version of Wine/WineASIO, works all right with june-beta version. So, obviously, the bug is due to some change which was introduced in nov-beta version ?

Does anyone of you have a clue to what I should try to benefit from the more recent version ? Advice warmly welcomed.
I will provide extra information where needed, of course.

Linux Gentoo
Wine version: 1.1.14 (but does not seem to matter much)
WineASIO version : 0.74

My msvcrt.dll 2456 bytes, sometimes there are more than one out in the wild.
There are download sites for such files, which could differ between wine releases.

/home/Klawzz/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/msvcrt.dll

Try recording audio in ardour, and then in audacity, then in Cantabile12Lite,
or the newer 2.0 lite. The results will narrow down the list of suspects.

Hello glokraw.

I have replaced msvcrt.dll with a downloaded one => same exact results.

All native Linux apps record all right on my box (Ardour, Rezound ...), but that is probably not the point here.

Via wine: CanabileLite records all right, as do versions of XT2 up to november beta.

So, to me, it seems that the list of culprits is pretty narrow, and includes all XT2 versions after nov-beta.

Also, I have to mention that the crash does not systematically happen. It happens most of the time, but sometimes recording happens OK.

Actually, I get a slightly different error message when using

Is all your testing done right after a full reboot or coldstart?
There are 'rogue' apps nearly all linux users use, that can interfere
with wine, even after being closed.

Are you using a realtime kernel? Some are reportedly broken,
as in Ubuntu Studio 8.10

If yes to RT kernel, what are the last lines of /etc/security/.limits.conf?

should be similar to this

So

I have redone all testing with full reboots in between; I have got rid of as many services +apps as possible; tried it in different desktop environments ; tested recording in an empty project, but I still get the same error.

I have even tried using the Direct Sound backend: so this rules WineASIO out of the equation.
I will report a bug to the Wine project, in case they can figure something out of this ?

Yes, realtime kernel 2.6.24.7-rt17 here; works fine with every other sound app. I have also done some testing using a vanilla kernel [2.6.24-gentoo-r8] which did not change anything.

and yes, I am a member of the audio group

Never hinted that I did. These were just some generic vanilla suggestions. Yesterday, a new qjackctl and jackd showed up in my synaptic, but they steadfastly refused to work with my
Reaper/wineasio, so, sadly had to had to roll 'em back.
But native linux sound apps like linuxsampler, and zynaddsubfx never sounded or worked together better. bum
