Hi,
i just bought cantabile performer version and must say thx for this great program. I'm using brainspawn forte for about four years now and thinking to exchange my plugins and settings to cantabile performer.

My main question for now is, how do you organize your plugins/mediafiles for live performing in cantabile performer. Is it better, to load all plugins in one (say template) session. This session could be the beginning Template for every new song. Or is it better to make a session file for each song, where only the plugins loaded that i'm using for this song. The only negative aspect would be, that some plugins must be extra loaded, if they aren't loaded in the song before, and this will take much more time.

The next question is, do you load each plugin in one rack or is it ok to load all plugins in one rack? I'm using NI Komplete (most Kontakt 3 for samples), Hypersonic 2, Sampletank 2, TruePiano and much more. My idea was to build one rack for each plugin, like...: Rack1>Hypersonic, Rack2>Sampletank2, ... etc.

We are using (help-)playbacks for some special (Enjoy the silence, and some more) songs. For this i have made my own audio files in C4 and have made a click track for the drummer. What I've seen, it is not possible to route the metronomes click to an extra audio output (or different channel).

Kind regards and many thanks for reading this...

Hi Steffan,

I just replied to your email with the same question but will post here for everyone else:

There's a couple of ways you could setup your sessions and session list depending on how much delay you can handle between selections.

If you're familiar with Forte, sub-sessions are Cantabile's equivalent to scenes and work in a very similar way. So you could define one large session with certain plugins suspended in different sub-sessions. You could then either select the sub-session directly or use a session list where every entry points to the same session file, but different sub-session. The big advantage of this approach is that switching between songs is very fast as all plugins are already loaded. The downside is that it will use more memory and is possibly more difficult to setup/maintain. You can use Cantablie's unloaded plugin support to reduce memory usage but this will introduce load delays again.

The other extreme would be to define a different session file for each song and have a session list that loads each one. Advantage of this approach is that each song is completely separate and therefore has lower memory usage - but this comes at the expense of slower load times.

Finally you can compromise and use a combination of the above where you have say two or three sessions with various plugin combinations. Switching will then be fast between songs that use the same session but slower when a different session file is used.

In the end it really comes down to a personal preference and what your hardware can handle.

One rack per instrument is a good idea if you want to use the per-rack split/transpose settings. The other advantage of this approach is on multi-core machines they're more likely to be processed in parallel.

If you're talking about routing your own recording to a different output channel this should be possible:

1. In the master bus configuration enable an extra audio channel.
2. Load the media file and in it's tools drop down choose Audio Channels and map the audio files channel(s) to the extra channel you defined in step 1.
3. In Options -> Audio Engine -> Assign Audio Channels assign the channel to a physical driver channel.

It's a bit convoluted I know but I haven't had time to simplify this area.

If you're trying to route Cantabile's metronome to a different channel, unfortunately this can't be done but is on my list of things to do, but not sure if it will make it into this version.
