Just as the thread title suggests, looking for thoughts and elaboration on Berfab's idea for this sort of thread or site to share our Infinite Player presets and such. Thoughts?

Definitely.
This is probably more to do with my lack of learning about its functionality but it is still not an obvious "go to" when I am creating music. Anything that is likely to encourage me to use it more in my mainstream approach to writing/composition would be welcomed!

I'm not in front of it now, oops and I have to actually pick up the NDV Premier kit but I'm sure somebody can smack together a nice set with that and the Gretsch for sure. I might take a stab at that. Don't forget possible multis with the piano and OmniSoundz2

I also think that is a great idea. I have been experimenting with hybrid IP and Ocean Way Expandable kit multis too.

@buscemi-
I actually suggested this with you in mind. I figured that someone of your bent (read: obsession) could really put this through its paces and come up with some very usable kits.

Here's the thing that I think might be throwing some users--myself included: As is, the Studio ProFiles kits are not, for the most part, instant gratification kits. By comparison, the Kitcore stuff, or the Guru kits, which allow you to edit a number of parameters in each hit, are all set with ready to roll timbres that fit in well with any number of styles--and with fairly easy tweaking. However, 'ambience' with these programs is achieved artificially with delay or reverb plugs.

The StudioPro kits have the overhead and room 'verb as a discrete part of the mix, which is really cool. But it's a new type of tool for most of us, and I'm personally finding that there's quite a learning curve to figuring out how to tame it. In addition, most of the kits, 'as is', don't have panning and volume settings that I'm generally used to. I prefer to have more of a stereo spread, usually imitating a traditional kit as the audience faces it (i.e. hats on the right, crashes left and right, kick slight left, snare slight right, etc.).

This is all doable (and more) but takes a while to audition, and set. Whereas, in GURU, no exaggeration, you can audition 20 kits in less than a minute, the depth of the ProFiles kits requires quite a bit more commitment.

So, like I've said earlier, I've mangaged to tweak a few kits, but I still have yet to hit on a real go-to kit. But I figure with our collective resources, there's going to be some brilliant stuff created, and I'm eager to see what others come up with.

Can this be done? Aren't the players for IP and OWD different? How do you bring in the OWD kits to IP? Or am I misunderstanding what it is you're doing?

That sounds interesting, I only have 2 OWDs at present but I have hit pretty much the same wall as IP, though I recognise the quality these things undoubtedly have.
I know that I should invest some time in these tools but I really must get on with writing (and completing!) some tracks for a change (sheesh, that's another area where I am a little lazy).
I think your instant gratification quote is for real or, at least something that part way leads you into a products capabilities.
I will be watching this thread closely.

Hmmm... well the kits loaded as multis do seem to be panned (though actually not as agressively as I'd expect but not in a critical listening environment at the moment). Drummer's perspective on the one I just listened to, which is always fine by me :) I'd assume that full Kontakt could do the hybrid OWD/IP. I'd try if I had it. Or if Squids wanted to donate the crossgrade to me or something. Ha, had to try.

Like I said, it's just a preference, but I personally like the panning a bit more agressive.

:dog: Kontakt 3, of course. I got so used to using the Kontakt player interface that I forgot that K3 would probably allow this.

Don't you currently lead the league in Epointz?

But, yeah, nice try there. Swing and a miss...

Can't buy Kontakt 3 with epointz unfortunately :) Since I've been put into a part-time position recently, I cannot go grab it though it would be a good tool for me at the moment. Maybe I'll sell some stuff to fund it. I'd love to get these kits into Battery, that would allow me to do quite a bit with them but I think it is only the other way around (Battery --> Kontakt)

I'm surprised that with all the stuff you have, Kontakt is not in the mix.

But I THOUGHT you were talking about OWD, not Kontakt, which is why I mentioned the Epointz.

Oh, good point - I want OWD too. Probably will spend some epointz on that after this GB. Kontakt will be in the mix, just have to get out of crisis mode at the moment.

Back to the topic - who has a preset to share? Should we share sound clips here too, even if it is a stock kit? Definitely would love to hear the presets so do share clips with those.

HYBRID OWD and IP kits..........

I'm not sitting at my music PC right now, but I think you can do this with the Kontakt Player as well as Kontakt 3. If you use the GM map, you can load a kit from IP or the OWD player and then "add" kit pieces (instruments vs. multis). I also own Steven Slate Drums and that uses Kontakt player too. I have layered OWD, IP and SSD pieces within Kontakt player and saved them as new multis.

If you use IMAP, things can get squirrely becuase OWD uses extended IMAP I think which is different than IP IMAP.

You may want to experiment with this.
