super-simple vst sample recorder?

I can't believe that I hours looking for this without success. There are zillions of fancy vst effects and instruments out there for free, but nothing like what I want. Any ideas where to look?

I want a Windows VST sample recorder, not a sample player but something very simple that can record live input audio and then on a click simply loop it and spread it across the keyboard to play with it polyphonically. I thought this is not too much to ask but apparently nobody needs something like this. Or have I overlooked something?

I think Tracktor can do that. Probably Max MSP and Usine too. Not VSts, though.

... and hardware samplers can do it too, like my trusty old Emulator and even a $10 Casio SK-1. I know that, but I asked for a VST plugin specifically.

maybe use this..

It's midi triggerable, so simply create a midi track that loops one note per bar in your DAW and assign whatever you sample/record to that note (on the fly).

Other than that, if it is truly important, I would stick with your emulator - it's far faster at it than most vsti's would be anyway.

Or Muxer's InstantSampler:

Just realized that InstantSampler doesn't map a sample across the keyboard, that I could tell at least. Pity.

Xhipsampler would be useful for a live setting if it had a simple ADSR envelope, otherwise it clicks a lot. No easy solution I'm afraid. There are plugin samplers that can record, like Emulator X3 or Directwave, but neither fall into the category of simple. Morgana is really easy to use, but unless you want lo-fi sound, not ideal either. Or Crossfade Loop Synth:

thanks all so far. I'll check out xhipsampler tomorrow. XFadelooper seems to do the trick as well, I just have to understand how to use it :-)

this thing records midi not audio?

+1 for usine. would not be that hard to do this. always click free loops would not be easy thu.

maybe arcDev H4xx0r can do this

Post

the xhipsampler has a nice user interface - one record button, that's it - I like that but it behaves very flakey and whatever it is meant to be, it is not what I need.

a midi looper (piz) is an interesting idea, but not what I'm looking for.

arcDev H4xx0r is a beat slicer.

usine has a sampler but it is a new environment, similar to audiomulch or bidule, and as I am used to bidule I don't want to throw it away and change to usine.

hmmm...strange there seems to be no easy tool for this??

kammerlkaske has a looper which can do instant, time synced loops. afaik no pitch control?
there also is Loopy Llama (complicated) or angstrolooper (no pitch)

free usine version would work too.
I also own bidule but I'd prefer usine for that job...

These are loopers, not samplers :) [/quote]

I was looking for the same thing, but found it in "Samplit".
It's $200(saves 9 different formats) or $119 (saves 1 format). The aif or wav files are also saved with the sample. Auto sampling. Auto looping. Auto mapping. If you want to, try the demo here.

this is a standalone app. I need a vst sampler.

Post

Again Not a VST but Renoise 2's sampler is rapid to work with and auto-maps samples quickly. Ableton Live and/or Renoise are what i use to do that sort of thing. Edit: EXTranslator Extreme Sample Converter v3.x or ExSC for short and not 'ExCS' as i initially typed out - My Bad  (Nice one for spotting that one Wakax :tu: ) another standalone app is great too and that gets alot of use also.

I cant think or know of a plug-in that does what you are asking
