Man, it's so close, I can taste it.

Symphonic Choirs comes in 2 parts: The Play engine (which loads the sample set) and WordBuilder (which takes midi input, parses words, and outputs midi to the Play engine to tell it which sample to play). Oh, and there is the issue of an Ilok copy protector.

In EnergyXT2.5.1/PC, Play loads, once you find it (C:\Program Files\Common Files\East West\Vstplugins)

WordBuilderVST does not load out of the box, because it really is an MFX-Vst. Now, we're in luck here, because mfxshell.dll sufficiently wraps it so it loads.

And, it all plays just fine. Coupla issues with midi playback in a sequencer, but all in all, I can hear sound, notes, words, etc. Yay.

However, the EnergyXT Render-To-Disk option always seems to produce an empty wav file, if all the parts are in place. And the real problem seems to be WordBuilder - if I take that out, render-to-disk works, just no words. And yes, I've tried wrapping the VST versions into the sequencer, too.

Routing the midi to the external standalone versions does not seem to improve this problem - there's a tendency for that setup to crash the midi/audio engines. If I can get that work stay up for a time, re-routing the audio to disk outside of Ext, well, is flighty and the levels are too low when capturing with say, Audacity.

Thoughts? Ideas? Fixes? I'd really rather not have to purchase Steinberg just to run this (which is the solution prompted by the SC forums - ooohhh they hate me trying to get it to work another way.....)

You could add second sequencer comp and record to an audio track in it?

Post

Almost. When I add the 2nd sequencer and record, I can see the audio, and replay the audio in the sequencer.

I still have to delete all the SC parts to get it to render to disk, and then it does it at the utterly wrong sample rate. 2-3 octaves too low, and, I can hear the click track.

So, I'm using Asio4all, 44100 sample rate, 16 bits. What else don't I know about rendering?

Just a possibility but could the Player be taking over ASIO4ALL? May be worth trying Direct Sound in XT2 setup instead?

Also, after recording into your 2nd sequencer, are you rendering from there?

I don't really know what I'k taking about, but I guess anything is worth a try 8)

Ah Ha!

I was rendering at 96000 herz, vs 44100 (which is what I'd already been working in for the rest of the project.)

So: Create EXT Clips (.xtc files) with SC up and running and in place (by recording into a 2nd sequencer instance, and saving the resultant tracks as cllips). Then load the clips into an altogether new instance of Ext, and mix-down from there. All at 44100 hz.

Ta Da!
