Silent Way & Multiple soundcards question....OSX, Logic Pro

Hiya - I'm wondering if it is possible to use Silent Way with 2 separate soundcards - in this case an Apogee Duet & Behringer F-Control, combined as as an Aggregate device in Core Audio.

I want to try this as I'm sure there are others out there with just 2 ins/outs, but may have a spare similar soundcard out there.

I've set it up in logic as follows:

Audio Ch1, input 1 (on Duet) for synth
Audio Inst Ch1 - instrument inserted, output 1&2 (on Behringer) to send voltages

Main out 1&2 on Duet

My experiments so far are kinda working, as per the instructions on the youtube vid for setting up Logic Pro, but the calibration process fails after around 2 octaves, and just my synth in just starts pinging and doesn't stop...it almost wants to work but I'm not sure if I should be using trs cables or jack to jack or something else.

I've tried this with Doepfer A-100, Moog Voyager OS & Korg MS-10 with same result...i.e. almost working, but not quite.

Any help/advice appreciated - this is such an awesome plugin, I just wanna be sure I'm not missing something really obvious...

I'm pretty sure the problem is that you're interfaces filters out low frequencies. Most do. The MOTU interfaces does not along with the Alesis IO|26 and Swissonics/Sonorus DA24. Those are the only interfaces i know that really works for this. Could be other but i have'nt heard of any.

Hey Jup -Thanks for your reply.

Hmm - sounds likely - the funny thing is I only got my Apogee recently, because my 828mkii died...I then thought 'i was never using those extra outputs, so why not get a Duet....:)' !

I wonder if there's hardware/firmware level access to those filters....?
Or if I should just go get another Motu......

Nope. You pretty much need to get your soldering rion out and go hardcore on a component level. Not for that faint of heart.

A second hand MOTU is the way to go.

I believe the 896 or 828 mkII are the "best" but i could have missed some model.

The cheaper 828mk1 doesn't have a great voltage range. It's good for about 3 octaves.

But if you use the amplified main ouputs or headphone outputs on channels 1 and 2 you get a much higher voltage range. So it's useful for 1 analog synth and you can use it over adat.

I'm using the MOTU 2408mk3 which gives me over 6 octaves on the pro 1.

The Arp Odyssey like a high gate to trigger it so I had to use the amplified outputs on the main 2 channels which worked nice for me in Volta. I haven't tested it yet with Voice Controler though.
