ambience

I was trying ambience and love the sound of it sooo sooo much. It depresses me that when i use it on most presets it uses 25% of my cpu. I tested it with one synth that only took up about 4% and l;eft the synth on the same preset. I have a p4 and I heard about an issue with them for some plugs, could this be the problem? Great sounding plug, GREAT.

ambience provides control over CPU usage ...
it would help to know more about your system and host in order to
comment further ...

w/ that set up , you must be running a godawful amount of tracks
to have cpu issues ...
w/ about the same set up , i can run eight instances of absynth ,
two crystals , ambience , lampthruster , and classic compressor w/ about 75% cpu ...
what vstis are you running ?...
if you are heavy into some synthedit vstis , that might explain your
problem ...
more info will help ...

I'm just running on instance of dahornet with one ambience and cpu is around 25% on average and one preset it is at 100%. Like I said there is some problem alot of plugs have with p4s that causes unsually hugh cpu use so I guess that is it?normal wrote:w/ that set up , you must be running a godawful amount of tracks

i guess i'm not understanding properly ...
where are you reading your CPU level from ...
your hosts' meter ?... or the ambience plug-in ?...
you can adjust CPU usage levels on all ambience pre-sets ...
my one dash plug-in , LeSax , can run a little high on CPU ,
but i can stll run multiples of it , w/ several FX , including
ambience ...
it would also probably help to know your audio settings in FL Studio ,
and your soundcard ...

I'm really shocked to hear about CPU problems on a PC (and a respectably powerful P4 2.4Ghz, 512MB RAM at that) since if I remember right, Magnus spent a lot of time and effort optimizing Ambience for SSE.ATS wrote:It depresses me that when i use it on most presets it uses 25% of my cpu.
As a Mac user with much less raw CPU power at hand, the lack of altivec optimization means I can't use Ambience in most of my projects (I don't want to deal with turning down the CPU/Quality knob) so you're still better off than me. Since Magnus doesn't have a Mac, this really can't be helped and it's already amazing that there are both Mac VST and Audio Unit versions out (I think Bram helped Magnus out with that task).

I feel i have to correct this
I haven't optimized it for SSE, because for this application it would not give much of an advantage i think, or it be extremely complicated to program. I
I did for a while consider using SSE but I decided it not worth the effort since the algorithm inherently doesn't lend itself very well to SSE optimisation without serious re-coding.
Marc of destroy fx of smartelectronix was the wonderful person who did the mac porting

Definitely it is a preset to be avoided.

I think I have an idea what this could be. It'll be fixed next version - if it is the problem I think it is... otherwise I'm not sure.
