I got a chance to use the old Amplitube1 (haven't used 2) and I really liked its "wah" effect. I haven't been able to find anything similar. The plugin db didn't give me what I was looking for and most wahs I've seen are static. Any idea how IK did it? Simple amplitude measuring? Maybe a good wah and an amplitude->midi plugin would work. I'm to understand that Amplitube 1 is no longer available and I don't really want/need Amplitube 2, so I'm just looking for this one effect.

Try Gtr solo
They have a free version.The autowah is pretty good I think.

Its free for a year, but yeah still way overblown for what I want I think. Maybe I can find a copy of Amplitube1 somewhere.

Auto wahs are done by using an envelope follower to track the amplitude of the input. The output of the envelope follower in turn modulates the cutoff frequency of a filter.

I don't usually promote my own plugins this way, but I have a free auto wah filter you can play with. You can download it from my products page (scroll down to the bottom).

As far as a MIDI based envelope follower, I have one in the works.

I actually suspected you might have something that would work, so I'm glad you replied.

So is a wah basically a LPF then?

It can be, but usually a bandpass filter is used. Also key to the auto wah sound is cranking up the resonance.

I've always gotten good results with NorthPole, but analog freaks (like me, alas...) might complain it's too regular, lacking the little inconsistencies of hardware.
