Best iPhone earphones/buds?

I don't really like the ones that come with it - they don't fit well in my ears. I want good sound quality obviously but I also want they to work with the iPhone properly (ie turn off music when phone rings, mike etc) so not generic earphones/buds - I already have some CX300's but they are not specifically made for iPhone and don't perform the other functions

How do earphones perform other functions? The phone/player controls the voltage to them.aMUSEd wrote:I don't really like the ones that come with it - they don't fit well in my ears. he means pause, end call, play etc. on the apple buds, there is a little button on the wire, you double squeeze to play ipod from anywhere, squeeze once to pause, and when incoming call comes, squeeze once to answer, then twice to hang up.

Oh, right, I remember reading about this. So, trading comfort and audio quality for other things, eh?grymmjack wrote:he means pause, end call, play etc. on the apple buds, there is a little button on the wire, you double squeeze to play ipod from anywhere, squeeze once to pause, and when incoming call comes, squeeze once to answer, then twice to hang up.

Not really - the whole point of this thread is to see if it's possible to have botheduardo_b wrote:Oh, right, I remember reading about this. It was a joke. The iWhatever products are so popular that the aftermarket is loaded with alternatives. Apple seems to make little effort on the quality of their included earphones in my experience.aMUSEd wrote:Not really - the whole point of this thread is to see if it's possible to have botheduardo_b wrote:Oh, right, I remember reading about this. I see the exact same stock earbuds sold as a replacement with the street price of around $30. That's terrible!eduardo_b wrote:The iWhatever products are so popular that the aftermarket is loaded with alternatives. Although there are exceptions, there isn't much for under $50 that's all that good for listening to music unless the music consists of 128K mp3 files, in which case cheaper models are actually better because they mask the ugliness that good headphones/earphones reveal. I don't understand why Apple consistently includes such crap earbuds with their products regardless of how expensive they are. My wife isn't too concerned about electronics, but she asks me to buy her quality earphones for her portables because even she finds the included ones so wanting for comfort and audio quality.buscemi wrote:I see the exact same stock earbuds sold as a replacement with the street price of around $30. My ears don't have the shelf for ear buds. I cannot wear them at all. I don't see this as a problem, in particular, but it has been frustrating.

You mean the hard ones, right? The soft ones should stay in I would think...as long as you have the right size for your ears.james0tucson wrote:My ears don't have the shelf for ear buds. I cannot wear them at all. I don't see this as a problem, in particular, but it has been frustrating.

I just want to get enough money in my pocket to be able to blow it on custom-fitted hearing protection AND custom earbuds but I'm not hemorrhaging 100-dollar bills... There sure isn't much < $50 worth a crap, but those aren't even worth 30. Though I suppose they are really doing a number on folks with the USB cable and little power doodad pricing more than the earbuds.

I have some Shure e4c earbuds and really like them. I'm sure by now they are obsolete and replaced by a newer model, but they are worth looking into IMO. I use the silicon plugs and find that as long as I replace every 6 months to a year that the sound quality stays excellent. Any longer than that they start to not fit so well.
A question I have: the iPhone seems to lack some of the clarity that I have with my iPod 5G. None of the EQ settings on the iPhone seem to allow me to match it. Anyone else have the same experience? The iPhone just sounds muddy for electronic music at least.

Good lord, I had no idea those headphones did that! I just learned about the mic a few weeks ago, ha ha ha! RTFM!grymmjack wrote:he means pause, end call, play etc. on the apple buds, there is a little button on the wire, you double squeeze to play ipod from anywhere, squeeze once to pause, and when incoming call comes, squeeze once to answer, then twice to hang up.
I seriously doubt any other headphones replicate those functions, but I'm curious; I'll take a look.
For the record, if you can't find the functionality, the AKG K416P's are insane for the price. What I do is switch to the Mac headphones when I know I'm going in for a long call. The music will still cut out and switch to phone with 3rd-party headphones; it just does it automatically.
