SampleTank in subsessions

I am having problems getting my head around how to use Sampletank programs in Cantabile Performer.

No matter how I set it up, Sampletank uses the same Cantabile program in each sub session. I can't seem to add programs to the "loaded bank" of the program organizer.

Is this a limitation of Sampletank? Should I just create a separate session for each Sampletank program that I want to use?

Confused!

Why doesn't a program in a "shared bank" get saved in a sub session?

I'm not sure if it solves your problem (I don't have sampletank) but I've some plugins that need the setting "subsession behavior" - "save entire bank" - even if you don't use subsessions... It's just these plugins do not export their internal single patches.

I did make those settings for each sub session. It still does not retain the preset switching between sessions. Is there something I need to do with the banks themselves?

pity that this does not help.

To make sure I've just tried the "entire bank" option with the kontakt player and Cantabile does send the new bank when changing subsessions - unfortunately kontakt delays and shortly loads something.

I guess it's better to set up all instruments in a session statically and just mute racks or change midi channel routings... further benefit is release phases are not cut off when you switch subsessions. It's a tradeoff as you might have higher basic load...

After much fiddiling, I think it works now, just not how I thought it should. Yes, you have to have "entire bank" set in the plug in's behavior. Just don't expect the program "name" to change in the program field of the plug in!

The preset in Sampletank gets changed, it just doesn't show up in Cantabile.

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.

Not at all...

There are some plugins - not only multi timbral samplers - that do not export patches... they simply have one "patch" in its bank... and yes - the name might never change in most cases... but let's be happy that there is the "entire bank" option... and that we do not have to sent midi bank/prg numbers to make happen what we need... :D

Glad you sorted this. Just to comment on the program name changing, if you rename the preset in Cantabile's plugin editor (Edit -> Rename Program command) for each sub-session it should change name when you load each subsession. I don't have sample tank installed here atm so I can't test it, but it should work.
