:D

No disrespect to the other contestants (and I see a lot of promising stuff which I intend to check out) but a bootsie tape sim? Bring it on!

I guess it'd be impertinent to ask what that thingy was? :hihi:

Post

So what's it supposed to do? I got it because I'm a huge Bootsy fan and I've had so much use out of some of his other plugins, but you were there through the development - what does it do? Why aren't you that impressed by it?

Post

I hven't tested it yet, but judging by the info, it's a reel-to-reel tape machine simulator, similar to Jeroen Breebart's Ferox (well, probably).

Post

well i like Bootsies plugs, but they are not my go-to plugs :D

Post

That's general, though. You had specific experience with this and registered that you weren't so pleased with it. Mind sharing what that experience was that led you to post about how it wasn't so great? Please, specifics :)

Post

Try'd on 1-2 songs and its good with mix's that aren't very dense. I didn't try it on individual material yet but I think it can be very nice if used like a preamp on every channel.

Post

does this add latency?

Post

Tried this in mix, which is already done, but client asked to make it more "interesting" - so I did some more FX on gtrs for different parts and aded this to spice up the drums - and liked the results *thumbsup*.
But, Bootsie - any chance of making linear-phase anti-alias filters? Pleeeeeezzz
Some folks claim to hear the ringing of IIR filters, some don't but there's a single thing that make linear-phase a very needed feature - parallel processing!
I'd gladly sacrifice some extreme top end and CPU cycles for this.

FerricTDS is really cool. I was beta testing this one also and can say that it is useful in many situations. It works really good on single instruments as on full mixes. It's easy to abuse FerricTDS but that's the challenge. Like with many of Bootsies plugins it needs some time to get to the depths of it and to get the most out of it. And then ... :o :D 8)

Shogger
What?

Post

Yeah, just tested. Dynamics itself is a thumbs up and as shogger said, its really easy to abuse and snap the twig out of drumtrack. Love.

Distortion is a funny sounding but have to evaluate more.. this was a fast test.

On garage-rock vocals this is the sh*t! The manual is very helpful when fiddling with this beast. Love it.

This one is GREAT! Tape saturation actually sounds like tape saturation and the added shaping one can do with the dynamics knob is fantastic!

I did get a bit better results by running an input pad of about -25dB on most signals and then compensating on the output. Perhaps add a button for this on the plugin itself? Especially on full program material it's wise to drive the Ferric much less.

Cheers!
