how to build a professional studio

hello everybody

i ve spared a little of money to realize this dream, a professional studio

i ve got the structure, the room

but i need all the strumentation (excepts guitar's amps and fx) so: mixers, microphones, preamps, drumset, compressors, cabinets, effects, cables... anyway, anything!

i ve this budget of 15.000 € (22,254 $)

can anyone with experience tell me a list of stuff that i need, with this money?

Wow, that's a nice position to be in; setting up your own studio from scratch! In my case it just grew bit by bit over about 20 years.

Anyway, first thing to ask yourself is what kind of studio you want? Do you want to be able to record more than one person at the time? Do you want to focus on live-instrumentation or more electronic midi-based stuff? Do you want to built an analog studio (I wouldn't recommend that) or a computerbased one? Mac or PC?

In general I would start with choosing the recordingmedium (a Mac with Logic is probably the way to go if you start from scratch. I use a PC with Tracktion and Audition myself) then get a good condensormic and a preamp (or a mixer with good preamps) and some good monitorspeakers and closed headphones.

And then I would save the rest of the money and work with what you have first and then add instruments and other gear bit by bit when you find out you need it.

I'd start with getting some good microphones. You plan to record real drums too, don't you? So that would mean getting at least two matched condersers you can use as overhead mics, a nice dynamic mic for the snare and a drumkick mic. And it would mean that your setup has to allow for recording several tracks at one time.

I'd stick with Cubase for recording then; get the latest version if you don't have it yet.
