Cantabile 2: Switching between instruments

Hi,
I'm using Cantabile 2.0 and I know that there are many MIDI routing options, keyboard split, muting/solo racks etc. but...

I have some buttons on my MIDI keyboard and I want them to simply switch between instruments which are loaded in the same rack...

Is there a way to do that? or to achieve something similar...

Thanks!

Are you using solo or performer?

A few directions to go with this ...When you switch instruments do you want to turn off the previous? Have you tried the right mouse click on the "bypass" icon on the vst you are using (it's a little down arrow on the far left of the vst row). It gives a nice option of 'Assign Midi Controler" which is where you might want to have a look into...

switch doesn't meen "add" another instrument - it means turn off the old one and turn on the new one

and bypassing 7 instruments just to play the 8th isn't really the way i'm looking for

Hi.

With Performer you have subsessions. You can mute the instruments you don't need then save this as a subsession for sound #1. Do similar for the other sounds you want and save additional subsession for that. Then you can recall these setups by sending midi program changes from your buttons to cantabile to switch sounds by switching subsessions. There are also options in Cantabile to step through these. You can also use the sessionlist feature.

Just a hint, it's better to load each instrument in a separate rack as this allows cantabile for processing these instruments in parallel. By doing so you can get more from a Core 2 dual or quad machine.

There is also a difference if you bypass instruments (the little arrow) inside a rack or if you suspend them (the little cross)... With bypass you just switch off midi - the plugin is still running and sustaining sound from that plugin is not cut down while suspending stops the plugin running and preserves processing power. You have to find out which option better suits your needs.
