The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I might resist being personally skewered or roasted.... Probably ...

Post

Like... IMO Whatcha Say by Jason DeRulo is horrible. I can't believe it's #1. :-o

Post

Wow, haven't paid attention to top 40 in... wow probably a decade.

I can't seriously skewer and roast, as these artists and performers are all actually doing something I'd never do... cuz I don't like to be watched.
:x

Hey! Keep your eyes off!

1 - Whatcha Say - Jason DeRulo

Autotuned vox and skin all looks photoshopped (or whatever the video equivalent is) but it's still pretty catchy. Imogen Heap's contribution does make the song, though. So it wins some love from me... as I truly love her. That's right. LOVE.

2- 3 - Britney Spears

Sorry couldn't take more than 30 seconds. No offense to her or her fans, just not my cup of tea.

4 - Fireflies - Owl City

Wow, this is actually pretty cool. Sounds like melodyne on this one, but that doesn't bother me. Very nice, never heard of this one. Gonna check out more from them! Thanks!

5 - Lady Gaga - Paparazzi

Enjoyed "Just Dance" and "Poker Face". This one not as much, but still, she and her team can put together a tight pop song. Love how delightfully weird she is. I know she's trash, but I'd hit it. Come on. Let's just admit it.

6 - Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone

Hell yeah! I f**king LOVE THIS SONG! AND KELLY CLARKSON! I didn't know
this one was coming out as a single (but I HOPED it would). When I got this
album it was the first track that snuck into my head and stayed there earlier this year. Brilliant, timeless pop song. Takes the best from the last 40 years and merges it flawlessly. Did I mention that I f**king LOVE Kelly Clarkson and her voice? Did I? Because I'll do it again. You people.

And for you bloody doubters, you sodding DETRACTORS out there, I expect you to listen to the bit at 3:00 in the video. That's right. That's the stuff.

Aw damn. Bloody edit cuts off the last chorus.
:x

7 - Party In The U.S.A. - Miley Cyrus

Did absolutely nothing for me.

8 - Down - Jay Sean Featuring Lil Wayne

Yawn.

9 - Beyonce - Sweet Dreams

Meh. But not Yawn.

10 - Meet Me Halfway - The Black Eyed Peas

OK, that's cool, creative, and hip. They get a win on this.

So, the "in" top 10 then, wow, that was pretty cool.

I submit, humbly, the section of 11:33 to 14:35 of Dream Theater's "The Count Of Tuscany" as a benchmark for which modern pop should aim. That was released this year. Why the hell was it never in the top 10?
:x :)

Neither have I. I thought it might be a good idea to look at what's currently hot. I also thought it might be good to include the UK.

Thanks for the opinions. Wanna do 8 more? :)

Sure, Let it whip!

Some of them gave me some ideas. I have to respect musicians who can do what I cannot, even if I don't like what they do.

I found "Whatcha Say" and especially "Down" to be really catchy. Paparazzi is also more entertaining than Lady Gaga's other garbage.

Recently I became aware of Asian Pop, so I added Japan. Now there's 10 more for you to check out. Some pretty good stuff too. :)

I think I like it..

I'm not a big Lady GaGa fan, but that Paparazzi video is f'kin brilliant. The Bad Romance ending shot is also right on, captures her 'Glam-Trash' image perfectly. Has that phrase been coined yet?

Have you seen this.. No production just Gaga. Spaceman would (did) say it was cabaret and I agree but it's still impressive.

I knew GaGa could play and sing because I saw the video of her appearance on Ellen.
