VST/Rewire Discussion resurrection.

Just checking in. It's been 6 months since the last discussion on VST/Rewire, and I was wondering if there was any progress on the decision. I know it would make my life easier (I wouldn't have to do seperate setups in Live and Cantabile - one for recording, and one for live performance). Cantabile's session switching blows Live out of the water, so it would be great to be able to load Cantabile as a VST in Live and record all output to seperate tracks (this would eliminate duplicating all my Cantabile sessions in Live). I also would like to see ReWire.

I've checked out "Notion 3" notation software. The idea combining high quality score with DAW/sequencing functions looks interesting. But I had trouble using the built in vst host with some of my plugins that work fine in Cantabile. Notion supports Rewire too, so this would be a solution.

Summing up several related discussions I assume Rewire is not high priority - like midi remote controller feedback to reflect controller changes on external gear during session/subsession changes. Some people have tried using Behringers BCR2000 and can't get the led rings working because of a lack of feedback from cantabile. I also remember Brad told me this feedback is a rarely requested feature - so also not high priority...

Maybe both is more than a lot of work to do, no clue, but assumingly. When I consider that Brad is a one man show I am nevertheless impressed what he has accomplished in a product he does not make a living from... and what he still is up to.

If I understand you correctly, you'd like to record tracks while playing Cantabile.

If this is the case, then why not try to do it the opposite way? You can use a vst sequencer loaded in Cantabile, that could record your audio/midi. I personaly use EnergyXT for this purpose, but there are some other options as well.

You're right, there's not been any progress on Rewire at this point. (My work and personal life has been total chaos the last couple of months). That said, in the new year I'm hoping to get some more time for Cantabile.

Regarding Rewire vs VST, I think a VST plugin version of Cantabile will win out. This seems to have more uses, more capability and it's a technology I already understand.
