That crazy Tim's has done it again.... here's what the guy says:
I have been working nite and day, and here it is : BANK 2 ! MY BEST BANK YET ( that includes the crystal ones I have done)
In this bank: Pads, Leads, Basses, Ethnic instruments, Atmospheres, Microtonals, and Algorithmics synced to host. Most patches use custom waveforms, thus the unusual textures not usually present in the standard waveforms. I have also done my best to make it less CPU entensive. Most patches only use 4 oscillators.
You can download the bank from our web site,

Sorta OT:
Hey 'Tick, any way you could enable the demo to load all these extra banks? that way I sort of know better what I'm paying for with Rhino - seeing as I'm not a huge patch designer I'll mostly be using other people's creations and it would be great to hear what they are capable of before i pull out the credit card :)

Funny you mentioned this cause I was wishing for the same thing. I love what I hear in the factory presets but only having 64 good ones is quite limited so I want to make sure the ones people have made are also good.

Well, here is a small preview of the kind of stuff this bank makes:

I'm working on a web site upgrade, the new version will have preview mp3 for a lot of presets.

By the way, this mp3 is just me holding 1 note on various presets, and mixing the results to a .wav file using Soundforge crossfade. I did that mp3 in about 2 mins...

damn, those presets sounds awesome! I can easily hear them being the heart of a whole track. And I can see why people say Rhino uses so much cpu - if those are just one note Rhino is doing alot more 'stuff' per note than any other synth I've heard.

The mp3's for presets idea is good, but I'd still prefer the ability to audition the sounds in my host. Obviously its your call if that can't happen though :)

Hi Tic and all

as of now, I am finishing up a demo MP3 of a song I did using the new presets. Came off rather nicely. You can hear what Rhino can do! I will send it to Tic when completed.

Excellent.

I don’t think anything else needs to be said.

All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

Cool, thanks Mr. Conrardy :)

for Floyd and Revolver and others considering:

As a beginner who got into this hobby in spring of 2003, I can say that the hundred-dollar barrier is a difficult one for me to cross as well -- I have only bought a select few other VSTi's in the US$30-60 range

But after a few weeks' consideration, I decided that I really liked the sounds in the Rhino demo and the overall smooth spacious tone, so I bought it -- no regrets at all :)

The factory banks in the paid version were just as inspiring as the ones in the demo -- and then another expert programmer (Tim C.) comes along with his different perspective and alchemy to recombine Rhino's elements in cool ways

As a beginner at the foot of the sound-programming mountain, I can say that for a VST of its complexity, Rhino seems clearly laid out and eventually comprehensible, at least tweakable for the new initiates

But to address the preset question again -- I had a great time playing with all of the factory presets as well as Tim's first bank (don't have 2nd bank yet) -- and in many cases, similar to what floyd mentioned above, I felt seedlings of tracks branching out

And I think Big Tick's MP3 link is a pretty good solution, to give a preview without giving away the store -- I wonder if a longer one or a few different ones could be done, maybe in streaming format?

Best wishes to all,

Kevin

well i've been playing with the new bank for a couple of hours.
i played with the sequencer on some of the prests on the left side. in some cases turning it off to get to the beauty at the base
very very nice

i think Tim may be getting the hang of this programming thing

Incredible. Way to showcase what Rhino can do. Congratulations on one great bank Tim. These will prove very useful to me and I'm sure everyone else. Can't get enough bells and pads... :D

Rhino never ceases to surprise me on a daily basis. 8)

Pure silliness. The mp3 demo was a VERY nice gesture but, while very nice sounding, certainly doesn't do the same for one as trying it out yourself. What I think Big Tick should do is what the makers of Exciton did. Put in a stupid annoying bleep every 5 seconds or so but leave the thing able to load patches that people create. That's fine with me. this way I can try it out fully. Regardless... I've decided I'm going to buy it anyway, probably next weekend or so. Not because of the mp3 or anything but based on the fact that the demo shows it to be awesome and the follow up good word from users is excellent. Spending $100 isn't a problem for me at all but all I'll be honest here... the past 4 VSTi's I bought I did so because I was able to download them and dump tons of user banks in them and truly mess with them. After a while of playing I was GA-GA over them and I bought them. Playing with only 64 presets has held me till now from buying Rhino. Though I'm going to buy it fairly soon it shows how first impressions can make a world of difference :-) Now... I simply can't wait to start using the deep emotional powerful sounds of Rhino... ah... soon... soon.

Revolver: before releasing Rhino I did a poll on this forum, asking for the preferred scheme for the demo. You can view the results here, and as you can see, the noise burst/bleep method is definitely not popular !
More recently, a similar poll was done on the main forum, with comparable results.

Thanks anyway for your input (and for considering purchasing the synth :-))

Another TC bank !! :o
I'm still getting into the first.
I think that I can honestly say, Rhino is my fave synth hands down.
I bought it at the reduced price and have been spoilt for highly usable banks since then.
I have used Rhino in all of the tracks I have completed since purchase. Can't say fairer than that  .
Thanks Big Tick and thanks TC :D

Revolver- you won't be disappointed if you buy Rhino.

Big Tick and Tim- Thanks for yet another superb sounding bank. Indeed this is the best yet!

To those concerned about CPU usage- Rhino does not eat as much CPU as you may think, and fortunately, it is so lush sounding you wont need more than 1 or 2 instances to fill your mix. I can easily run several instances on my Athlon XP 2000+
