Using Program Changes with the Setlist

In my setup, I send program changes from one keyboard to another keyboard and my laptop. How do I configure Cantabile so that it responds to program changes on a specific channel by changing to the program with the same number on the setlist, and where would I specify that channel? I want to be able to send a PC 5 to Cantabile and have it switch to the session/subsession in the setlist that is set to Program #5 (I don't really care about what happens if there are fewer than 5 items in the setlist or if there is no item with program #5). The manual suggests doing this through MIDI Controller Assignments, but I see no way to set this up for all programs, rather than for a specific program (and clearly, setting 127 entries, one for each possible program, is tedious; there's got to be a better way).

Post

1. Open the Setlist Window

2. Click "MIDI Assignments" in setlist window
-> Midi Assignment Window opens

3. Send any program change message on the channel you want to use
-> You see an assignment now (like "program Z on device XX midi channel Y)

4. Open the "Assign to" drop down in "Midi Assignment" dialog and select:
- "SetList Load Song (instant)"
-> The assignment above changes to "program change on device XX midi channel yy"
this might have been the hidden "secret" you were digging for... was it?

5. Close midi assignment and you're done. Program changes sent on the used midi channel should select the according songs (i.e. session/subsession) entries now.

I'll have to try it out at home tonight, but it looks like that's the part I was missing. I just didn't expect the assignment to change from a specific program change to a general one based on what it was assigned to. Thanks!

I know that some things are not intuitive - yet still there.

Let me know if you get it working.

I started to use Cantabile performer only a few days ago in Japan.
I made some sessions and try to change one session to another
using the setlist.
When changing to a different session from several specific session,
the dialog to confirm save changes appears though I added no changes to it.
Why ? and What should I do ? Please advise me about this problem.

I've asked Brad that question too but it still seems to be there.
Please send this again to Topten Software - maybe there will be some change.

Only "workaround" I remember is to change auto save in the settings:
Options - SetList - Save modified sessions - YES / NO / PROMPT

You seem to have selected "PROMPT". Try "YES" or "NO" instead.

Good luck in japan! :D

Thank you very much for your quick reply. :D
I set "Save modified sessions - YES" now and
will set "NO" when all sessions are fixed.

I will use Cantabile on live stage on February.

I've been playing at a 4-day conference, and other than running into the same problem in rehearsal, which I figured out how to fix myself before the first performance, everything went well.

Gaap, are you doing anything that might send MIDI controller changes to Cantabile that would modify any settings? Or perhaps are you sending program changes into a VST? I'd have to double-check, but when I encountered the prompts, it was on subsessions where I was controlling the volume of some instruments in Kontakt with a foot pedal.
