I don't know about you, but I was pretty unimpressed with the NAMM product announcements this week.
It seemed like a blur of sequels and bloatware. Brass 2, Amplitube 3 -- more this packed in, more that.
Upgrades to 64 bit. Yawn.
Nothing new or unique. Didn't see any must-haves yet.

I'd be surprised if there were any. Waiting for a couple thousand people to show up in one building to announce a product is ridiculous in the internet age.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Well, about 100,000 people, but not all at once or all interested in a particular product. But still.pough wrote:I'd be surprised if there were any. Waiting for a couple thousand people to show up in one building to announce a product is ridiculous in the internet age.

I thought about posting one of these too.
But namm seems to get worse every year. It's really hyped and it super crowded but it's the same ol' thing. ALLOT of guitars and basses that are basically just more expensive versions of what was already out there (how many more times is PRS going to try to reinvent the guitar???????)
We already knew about AT3, so there was no surprise there. Much else was a waste, though I have to say I applaud companies trying to go x64 (though the ones who don't are just bringing the rest of us down
)

Doesn't Fender own PRS now? If, "no," wont they in about two years? Seriously, it hasn't been the same for me since they bought Jackson, although, I'm craving a Charvel, just cause they are fairly cheap now. I suppose if I had $2,500 I'd buy the original.....

I don't know, but there are so many guitars that are so ridiculously overpriced. And they just keep coming.....a never-ending 2000usd+ breed of guitars I'll never see at guitar center and couldn't afford if I didckatrun411 wrote:Doesn't Fender own PRS now?

Yeah, that's a joke, "the brand new $4900 les paul cap his ass," and shit like that. $59 hundred, hundred, Fender 59 Tele, and silly shit like that.
But you can also find a 1980s superstrat for a $1000

Just imagine, ApliTube 3 and one of these shielded, quiet, sinister sounding superstrats I've been thinking about this all day............

I don't know... there is a lot of exciting stuff going on. It's just not happening in the big booths on the main floor. It's getting easier and cheaper for small companies to produce and distribute cutting edge technology and niche products. It's a great time for DIY electronics and I think there will be more big developments in live sound as the gap between big venues and local clubs closes.

Besides Amplitube 3, which is interesting to me, what's caught my eye so far is hardware-
Roland spd-30 Octapad
Allen and Heath Zed 10 mixer
Cakewalk A-800 Pro midi controller
Alesis Video Track
Gear I'd like to check out.

These two do look interesting.Cordelia wrote: Roland spd-30 Octapad

Still, I'd like to see a really good 61 key controller without all the transport and gobbly gook that just uses class compliant connection and has good keys. Unless you get something huge and excessive like the A-xxx controller, you get shit. I've already got a nice reliable "shitty" controller in my keyrig 49.....fits perfectly in my little home setup too.
