From reviews I've read it seems like 'How To Write Songs On Guitar' is a good theory book and probably better than 'How to Write Songs on Keyboards'.

I have no knowledge of how to play guitar though so will I be able to understand it?

Because the author is the same I think both books probably have more or less same ideas/content but tailored for particular instrument. So if you play keyboards IMO you should get 'How to Write Songs on Keyboards'.

What are you aiming to get out of the book? I don't know the guitar one well but I do have the keyboards version as well as his melody book. If you are looking for a theory book, you may be disappointed.

They are both very good as a source of ideas, inspiration and songwriting technique but what they don't do a lot of is the basic theory - and it's handy to have a bit of theory (at least Roman numeral chord notation) when going through the keyboards book. Also, the chord sequences are set up to be relatively easy to play on a keyboard - I assume the guitar one is similar in approach so you may find it tough to transpose one to the other if you don't know your way around a fretboard that well.

I have both books and they are different in their approach, so there is not a lot of overlap.

The guitar book gives a really good grounding in guitar theory, and is easy enough to follow.

The keyboards book is less basic theory oriented, but rather focusses more on exercises.

Both are good in their own right, and equally worthy of purchase, though if I had to choose one it would be the guitar book, brcause teh content, to me, is more meaty.

There is a new book the came out end of last year that put all the content of his old books together in one.

It's Is an awesome deal.
