What about morphing between different waves in the different oscillators, e.g. starting in 1, moving through, 2, 3 and ending in 4?

Any of the presets that you would suggest as good models for doing this?

Any general advice or tips on the best way to go about this? e.g. in emulating instruments?

You can "sort of" do it using envelopes crossfades.
For 2 oscillators you would have osc1 envelope doing (enjoy the ASCII art):

The principle is the same for more oscillators, although you'll have to draw your envelopes on paper first to get them right.
Does it make any sense ?

I guess the hard part would be getting the timing right for where each of the envelopes comes in (as in your drawing)? And this would be related to each place the timbre changes in the overall morphed sound?

What got me wondering about doing this kind of thing with Rhino was reading about the PPG wavetable. It seems to move through a series of simple wave forms, e.g. such as could easily be invented using Rhino's additive editor [especially with the very useful new feature set].

My point is not to imitate a PPG, but to use a similar idea, e.g. triggered in my head by this article (which explains the purpose of the individual additive wave forms in the Waldorf PPG wavetable)

It would seem to me by morphing through a series of sounds (created using Rhino's additive editor) it would be possible with Rhino to create and recreate some spectrally very realistic and complex sounds.

Thinking in terms of additive synthesis is pretty new to me. I am trying to figure out how to use it.
