Was wondering if there is an updated version of Vincent Persichetti's Twentieth-Century Harmony: Creative Aspects and Practice because while the book's incredibly comprehensive and mind-blowing it was written in the 60s and I feel like music has developed alot during that period. I don't mean like an exact updated version more of a book that goes into further depth on the crazy techniques in the book and was written more recently.

To be honest, I think he's a bit of a one-off composer, and while this book has achieved a good deal of respect (I have a copy, and yes, I've read it!), I don't think that anyone has really "picked up the reigns" and focused on the same principles with any sense of "continuation." I enjoyed the creativity of his approach, but I wouldn't embrace it for myself.
Really, I don't think you need to look much further than Persichetti's actual music scores -- if you can find a few favourite pieces, then study them to death. (This is true of any music you like.)

To be honest. I do not think there are many books like that nowadays. You could try and take a look at David Cope. He has written a few books that talk about contemporary music. If you need info past just a rough overview, you'll need to get books on the chosen technique...OR...you could try and email your local university that has a music composition program and ask them for more in depth info. They could point you in the right direction.
