The New Dreammachine 3

Image

This is a new and completely rebuilt version of The Dreammachine featuring a largely increased functionality. Still it is a machine intended for slow motion providing complex evolving athmospheres and soundscapes. The concept of the Dreammachine is based on three synthlayers with slow wavesequencing and soundmodulations.

Version 3 of The Dreammachine has gone polyphonic now and can be used as a synth too, so there are three basic ways to play the machine:

1st using the inbuilt Note sequencer and if you like play along that one;
2nd Hold a note and if you like play along or edit;
3rd play the machine as 16 voice synthesizer with max. 6 oscs on one key.

In addition you can manually advance each part using MIDI keys/notes #24, #26, #28 and #29 plus #35 to advance synth parts simultaneously. As the Note sequencer is hardlinked to the Bottom/Low Part this one will be advanced too.

There are three parts: Bottom/Low (or Bass), Back/Mid (or Pad) and Sparkle/High for three basic layers of sound plus a OneShot part to throw in some additional highlights such as vocal phrases, percussive sounds or Sfx. Each part has got a 16 step sequencer for waveforms to be played in succession with the One Shot part having 32 steps. The Note sequencer has an option to play even duophonic in adding a 2nd note selectable in 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 semitones up. Also Back/Mid and Sparkle Parts can be set in semitones from -12 to +12. All in all you got very flexible means to set up sophisticated complex sound layers. For most convenience the wave names are not only displayed at each seq step but also selectable from popup menus showing the names. And of course the famous HGFortune Lazy buttons are also present at each section or part (Pro version only) as small buttons marked with L ;-)

A 3rd demo video:

Download a Basic free version (which is less sophisticated than the Pro of course) via my downloadpage:

Ok, I updated the Basic free with the sf2 files inside the dll

Hi,

I love the sounds that come from Dreammachine (according to the 2 demotracks available on your website), but, at first sight, the GUI is quite "intimidating" 8)

So, in order to understand how Dreammachine works, I guess I'll have to read the provided ".pdf" file , but I also think that some kind of YouTube video tutorials would be pretty much welcomed (it could be a visual, quick, and easy-to-follow 1st encounter with Dreammachine).

And the same could apply for X-WoF 6, too 8)

Now, going to test the free version of Dreammachine :)

Thanks for reading.

In fact it's far more simple than it might look at a first glance. After having comprehended the interaction of the four sequencers by setting resp. switch steps and/or tempo lengths it's more up to your imagination what waves you want to have played. Anyway in the 1st phase of editing own patches it might be helpful to use fairly simple settings with same tempo-lengths for all sequs and switches for change on a more regular pattern.

In fact setting up wave sequences has become even more comfortable with this version as you can manually advance and listen, change waves until it fits your needs. Then you might play with sound modifications for more or less moving sounds. Have an eye on the LFO bpm settings as it is best to have all set to different setting for more variations.

I put it in energy and Reaper and I cant manage it to get any sound out of it.
I push and play any button but no sound.

Dont know what I'm doing wrong. :(

Yeah, I tried the free version in Tobybear's Minihost and also in Reaper, and I couldn't get it to make a sound. Presing keys, pressing play in the host, pressing play on the dreammachine, etc....I didn't have much luck.

I've had no trouble with the earlier Dreammachines so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong either.

Try setting Host Control to On to enable Transport Run - anyway you should be able to play via MIDI kb directly regardless the MIDI channel.

I had no trouble here using MiniHost, VSTHost (1.45), Cantabile Lite etc. anything worked fine as set on startup. There had been one guy complaining probs in Cubase 5.1.1 but these had been solved in setting Host Control to On.

"I cant manage it to get any sound out of it", Here the same problem with XP/Bidule but after loading The Dreammachine Basic V3-Intern.fxb, TDM started
to produce gorgeous sounds. Thanks, HG

BINGO!

When you first open the vsti, there are preset names in the browser, but there are actually no presets there. You've got to load the bank manually.

Good work, werd. I thought I was going crazy.

that sounds someway quite weird as I did not have such probs here even after having it put into a different VST folder. Next time on startup could you please try simply to switch to next patch and see whether it is working then without loading the external fxb file.

Config: win xp/bidule on Netbook Asus Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz
setup TDM3>Mixer>Output

view startup NO sound, switching patches NO sound

view after loading fxb

Once saved as Bidule patch, no loading fxb is necessary.

that's really strange and beyond explanation to me atm.

please could you try this with Cantabile lite on that netbook

I tried this already in Solo, but also No Sound.
Tried to load fxb file but the following
Cantabile Solo popup window comes up

The Following error(s) have occured:
VST Plugin TDM3Basic Failed to load preset - version mismatch

This message seems to be an error in Cantabile as the fxb file is simply the internal bank exported from exactly that version.

But not loading the internal bank (at least as of the wave display) properly is strange enough.

Did you unzip it properly with folders intact? Improper decompressing will make it not work because it cannot find the sound file.

I downloaded and unzipped it - tested it in Cantible solo 32 and 64 bit with no problems.

Great vsti HG!
