Bumped to version 1. This is the same as 0.4.5 except the knobs have a different sensitivity so its easier to make slight adjustments.

A bit more info:

This is a faitlful model of the (literally) legendary "Leveller" hardware compressor from the 60s. These units are extremely rare and collectable due to the fact that less than one of them was ever made and sold. On the plus side, this did make it possible for me to collect together ALL surviving examples, and thereby create a modelled vst version that is actually more like the original units than the original units were themselves.

The compressor uses an algorithm which is somewhere between feedforward and feedbackward and which I have therefore dubbed "feed sideways". It can be gentle and subtle if you want it to be. But its more fun when you slam it hard, especially on drums.

Features:

* One knob compression: turn up the comp knob for more, turn it down for less.
* Soft clipping keeps your peaks below 0dBFS: turn up the Gain knob to drive it harder.
* Powerful envelope shaping, with no calibration for the time constants: use your ears!
* Series mode: switch to mode "II" to get two L3V3LL3Rs running in series for some serious smashing.
* Not that much cpu load at all really. Stick one on every track if you want....

Based on your description of this extremely rare specimen, I'm going to give it a run regardless, but is this a SM thing or "native"?

SM I'm afraid. Sorry!

Less than one?!! So you based it on an imaginary compressor?

Lol, thanks will check it out ;)

Its modelled in every single detail, including the fact that it doesn't exist in any physical form.

So it's modelled on nothing, therefore it's your design, from scratch??? :?

Well, I suppose you could look at it like that...

No need to apologize. Having said that, mode II of this thing really SUCKS. :hihi: Oh, dynamics jokes never get old, do they? I have the poor little hands on the GR meter spazzing out pretty hard right now!

To be honest, I've not really heard mode II properly yet.

I've been tweaking the basic compressor model for quite a while now, but I only just added mode II yesterday, and I haven't made it down to the studio yet as I'm still recovering from a nasty cold. I'm looking forward to trying it out myself, based on what I'm hearing from my laptop speakers...

Anyway, mode II currently just sticks two of the compressors in series, with identical settings. Its almost the same as loading another L3V3LL3R, except there is still only one saturation stage.

It won't be found in any spank club you frequent I gather. But who really minds an good spank if it comes for free, eh.

Pretty smooth from what I can tell.Tried it on bass, some drums, a single long clean guitar strum. Great little unit and easy to use. Sweet gold :) .
Will mix for fun

Initial impression: very nice little compressor! I have no idea about its pedigree, but it's a very easy to use compressor with a sound a think a lot of vintage-seekers will love!

Yeah, trying it on vocals now...very nice. The compressor seems to sing near the twelve o'clock position on I, bit less on II; and great for super-crushed drums. Seems to let the low end through... Really nice! Thanks, IIRs!

As ever, my question would be about cpu usage??

Post

after extensive beta testing, I can confirm that some CPU is definitely required.
