Analog Hardware Solutions for Recording Guitar Direct (Amps w/Palmer Cab Sims & Software Modelers)

Anyone still recording guitar amps through Palmer DI boxes? Given all the advancements in guitar amp software modeling, I was wondering how would a current high-end software modeling solution (Softube Vintage Amp Room, or Waves GTR, or Amplitube 3) compare against something like Mesa Transatlantic amp recorded through Palmer PGA 04 cab simulator. This obviously, short of versatility and abundance of features typically included in software modelers (xx number of amps/cabs/ pedals, etc. included in a typical software modeler like Amplitube or Guitar Rig).

One would expect that in terms of dynamic response and feel, hardware solutions would be superior.

I've never had a chance to use Palmer hardware speaker simulators, which is why I would be interested to hear opinions of those who had.

My reference for a raw guitar sound is Rickenbacker 330 through AC30.
