Free custom waveforms for use in synths?

VST, AU, AAX, CLAP, etc. Plugin Virtual Instruments Discussion

Post

Hello.

Just wondering if there are good free custom single cycle waveforms to use in synths. I'm finally starting to make presets from scratch and trying to experiment with waveforms other than the traditional sine, square, etc..

Would you be so kind to share any ressources you may have (links). Thank you for your time.

have you considered using a synth that lets you draw your own waveforms? oatmeal has this function - the possibilities suddenly become endless!

The actual waveform is only a small part of the synth sounds. If you want something that has a more agressive sound, try using FM, even if you don't know how that works, mess with it, it can give you a lot of different basic waveform sounds. A lot of the sound it in the filter envelope I feel.

Certainly endless but different compared to single cycle waveform assembled into a scannable wavetable ( wich is the basic principle behind Wavetable synthesis )

Thanks guys. I have Sytrus which is FM and allows making custom waveforms (not by hand drawing them but there are 6 sliders that I can use to shape the waveform). I can also change the harmonic content using the Harmonics editor. Sytrus is a beast but I'm not ready to start learning it yet..

Someone just shared some cool waveforms on a different web site (The Juno ones as well as others, and he's working on the Virus ones). I am a newbie at making synth presets and I'd rather start with a subtractive synth. FM is a bit too complicated for now. With a subtractive synth I feel that I can really hear the changes that I am making depending on what waveform I use, how modulating a certain parameter changes the sound, etc.. . I think it's important I try to familiarize myself with different waveforms and how they change the sound before I move on to better things. I want to experiment with an easier synth first and then move on to FM. I also have Toxic Biohazard which also does FM, but right now I am not touching the Matrix and only messing around with the 6 OSCs and internal modulation options. Trying to take it one step at a time. I am more of a sample guy and synth programming can be quite overwhelming (to me).

Just pointing out that while single-cycle waveforms can be very nice indeed, they become even better when they morph into others (i.e., vector synthesis), especially if you can modulate the transition by, say, velocity (but hey, I'm a guitarist, so I'm obsessed with all things dynamic, even when there's no need for them).
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

There are single cyvle waves included in both the Virus Mod and Muz3um packs for Z3ta+. Found at:

Unless you already have them and want more. :hihi:

And one last link for good measure...

FL Studio Augur waveform kit.
KVR user grymmjack extracted the waveforms from Augur to used in other synths.
