Media players for Android phones

What's the state of the available media players for the Android platform?
I'm carefully evaluating Android in case I want to say byebye to the ol' iPhone. So, what media players is concerned, it only has to live up to the questionable standard that is iTunes.
Are there any decent media players for Android? And what hardware is concerned, what do you think is the best phone brand for audio quality in concerned?

If you want something that lives up to iTunes, that shouldn't be too difficult.
Seriously, DoubleTwist is a desktop (I don't know if it's Windows-only, though) and Android client that syncs your music in a very iTunes-like manner. Give it a go.
There's another thing called MixZing that's getting good reviews but I haven't tried it extensively.
HTC Androids also have a kinda decent media player (better than the sucky stock Android, that is).
RockPlayer is like VLC Player on Android and it can play a lot of formats. A bit unpolished though.

My needs are simple: I prefer manual upload, not some sort of iTunes-like sync. I just want a decent player that makes it easy to browse by album name or artist and that works logically. Things like ability to switch to album when in shuffle would be nice (i.e. if you hear a track in shuffle mode and you want to continue listening to the whole album the track is part of)
The real advantage I'm looking for is the open file system and not being locked to one OS at the time. At this point, it's the only real thing in favour of Android for me.. but it's a big one.

You could have a look at songbird, it's an incredibly shameless copy of iTunes, but I've heard you can customize most things about it. So if you're used to iTunes you would start out with something familiar but you can change the things that annoy you. But ofcourse you won't have the seamless integration of hardware/software that you'd have with the Apple ecosystem (e.g. the nice smart playlists, genius playlists, etc.)spaceman wrote:What's the state of the available media players for the Android platform?

I haven't found any decent mediaplayer for my HTC Legend yet. At least nothing that comes even close to the polish and usability of iOS's media players. I've tried the stock Android player (rubbish), the HTC player (slightly less rubbish) and RockPlayer (decent for movies but still meh).
So I'm also open for suggestions from anyone else..

I wish there were third party players for iPhone that covered more formats (like ogg etc)

Who knows? Now there's CineXplayer for the iPad which plays DivX/Xvids without the need for jailbreaking maybe Ogg/MKV/Flac players for iPhone may be next?aMUSEd wrote:I wish there were third party players for iPhone that covered more formats (like ogg etc)
