Hi everybody,

I produce music like techhouse,minimal,techno but';
With producing everything is going okay from EQ to making fatt basslines

But than the strong structure comes in.

Its so difficult to make a good break with filters fx etc.

Can somebody help me with a good tutorial of it ?

to make good breaks and a good arrangement and structure in your tracks

Do it the dirty way: stole other people ideas. Listen to some tracks you like and take notes of their break parts, elements, ideas, filtering, etc. Once you get good at copy the ideas, you can start to develop your own.

Unfortunately, it's hard to break rules nowadays. I'm listening tons of old House records, and I'm surprised how they're so creative and different from each other, even with the obvious gear/studio limitations of that era. Every track has its own "personality". If you take a bunch of 2010 Electro tracks, you'll see they follow exactly the same structure despite the unlimited possibilities of modern production tools.

As a tip, I like to put dub-style elements on the breaks, like long reverbed claps, congas, white noise sweeps, delays and what not. Low passing the drums works a lot too. Keep in mind the break is the moment when the dancer takes his breath back and waits for something to come. In Trance, many producers use the infamous white noise woosh + snare roll trick, to great results and that idea is surely something you can adapt to your own style, respecting the "rules", in case you want to keep loyal to the style paradigms. ;)

There is no rule about that. Like which bar you should introduce the break and such. Unfortunately, in some EDM related forums you get answers like "get the bass in at bar 33" and alikes.

Listen closely to your favorite tracks and learn. Throw it into your sequencer of choice (if you can) and follow it by eye and ear. There is no big secret, but you should find a way of tension and relief and your own way of introducing the break. Its all about transitions. Sometimes, everything people do is having a kind of little raise fx and take the drums out, before they will develope the song into a quiet part. This again depends on the song you're working on. Some songs just need those simple things. There isnt much musical content most of the time, so you got to know your effects and how to do proper automation that will help develope a minimal theme effective.

just a wild guess, but could there perhaps be some kind of cause and effect relationship between these 2 quotes, i wonder?

monkeyweasel: yes, it may be. But, for a start, there's nothing wrong with borrow some ideas. Structure can be a pain in the ass, because some of us have tons of 15 second loops that we listen for hours and hours and can't make a proper arrangement. The result is: we get mad about them, and never touch them again. Of course nothing stops the guy from develop it's own style, as long as he's having fun.

Besides, I mentioned early House more as a reflection than as a recomendation. Problem is that many beginners can get neurotic of being "original" and may end struck trying it. I think music is fun, and you should do it whatever you like.

I don't have a problem with being unoriginal. My complaint has much to do with people that could be much better at their craft but simply don't care about it.
