Ain't we going about the DC's the wrong way?

We've seen the better part of 2010 pass by without the DC'10 started yet. So I thought to myself. Do we really need a yearly event? Why not continue on the way we're walking? Lots of people have tons of duties to deal with, so this is my thought:

1. Skip DC'10 entirely, it's sad, but it must be done.

2. Focus all effort to get sponsors for the DC'11 from now until the end of 2010.

3. Announce DC'11 on new years eve 2010 to start at January 1st 2011.

4. The end results should be in 1st december 2011.

5. The voting starts immediately afterwards and continues until the last February 2012.

6. Continue the cycle from 2 and forward.

In a sense we make this into an event every 2nd year. Benefits:

* More time to complete the plugin.
* More competitors.
* More prize money.
* Better non cash prizes.
* More time to test the plugins and decide what plugin is the best.

Just my thoughts here. How do you like the approach?

Generally, good idea.

I didn't enter last time because I didn't really have anything ready and then only had two (three?) months to get everything together. A structured approach that people understand and know is coming up can only help devs plan and implement their plugs more effectively.

Not sure about having the voting over Christmas... maybe a good idea because people off work etc... maybe people too busy to concentrate on the challenge..?
