Kontakt 4 installation

Hello,
I've purchased 2 of your libraries (mellotron, strings), but I'm a little confused on how to install them. Keep in mind Kontakt is fairly new to me.
I unzipped the files to \Program Files\Native Instruments\Sample Libraries, thinking I could add them to my Kontakt libraries.
When in Kontakt, I click on Add library, browse this new directory, but I get a "No library files" error message.
Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Right now I have to browse my C drive all the way down to those directories to load samples and it's driving me a litte crazy, since everything I open the disk browse, I'm at the root.
Can someone explain to me what the best way to go about this? Not even sure if it's a Kontakt issue (my limited knowledge), a HS install issue, or a Receptor issue.
Best regards,

For me, the easiest way to organize new Kontakt Libraries that are not "Powered by Kontakt" libraries is by simply creating a folder, such as "HollowSun" in the directory where all the factory content is stored (so you should see the default libraries: Band, Choir, Orchestral, Synth, etc...) and then drop your new HollowSun sample libraries in the newly created HollowSun folder!
This way you can access any of this content just like you would the factory content. No need to "Add to library" with this method... it'll simply be visible like all the factory content. Makes life much more simple (at least I think so).

I've seen a hack for adding it on Windows, but with the hack it would only show in demo mode, so I never thought it was worth pursuing.
Honestly, I still find this method the easiest because all the sounds are in a single location. Even with the Powered by Kontakt libraries, and the pretty graphic that comes with it, I still prefer having everything together... I just find I'm personally more efficient when there's less navigation involved.

Thanks for replying on my behalf, Elxicano ... and probably better than I could!!!
I don't know if there's a difference between 3.5 and 4 but I don't put my library anywhere special (not to say my library isn't 'special' of course
) and find I can open stuff up simply by double clicking on the required .NKI or dragging and dropping it into the Kontakt 'rack'. While I am working on stuff, it's on my desktop and I just drag and drop. The samples load automatically, of course.
In fact, I rarely use Kontakt's own browser as I happen to find it a bit clunky so I keep it closed now.
This is on a Mac, BTW, but I can't imagine it's any different in Windows.
Anyway, seems you're sorted now, Meo. Enjoy the sounds!
Cheers,
Steve

Hey! No need to apologise - your input was most welcome here.elxicano wrote:Sorry Steve! I actually didn't realize it was in your forum! Well, I've always been a fan of your works so in either case I'm happy to help! ...but yeah, I should probably look up more

Demo mode only when done in Kontakt Player. If done in full version of Kontakt, no demo mode.elxicano wrote:I've seen a hack for adding it on Windows, but with the hack it would only show in demo mode, so I never thought it was worth pursuing.

[EDIT
I have Kontakt 4, never owned a previous version, so I don't know how they behave.
]
This is my way of dealing with this:
When Kontakt is open, you can right-click on the Rack area to bring up the fast-load-browser. (or whatever it's called, I'm fairly new to Kontakt as well.)
Then Create a new folder in the fast-load-browser, you can always create subfolders. So you can organize all your libraries first by publisher, then by library, then by instrument... or any other way you desire.
I believe that one .NKI instrument can show up in multiple folders, so you could create a folder structure like "Publisher" -> "Hollow Sun" -> "Library X" and put the .NKIs in there, then create an additional folder structure like "Synths" -> "Most useful" and put the .NKIs in there as well.
To add .NKIs is simple, just drag/drop them from your Explorer window, or open Kontakt's library browser (on the left), browse your way through to the .NKIs location and drag/drop them to the fast-load-browser from there.
Unfortunately, .NKIs added like this won't show up in the "real" library browser (where all the 3rd party "powered by Kontakt" libraries show up), but still, they're just a right-click away at any time.
Hope this helps.

I actually don't have Kontakt Player... The last time I tried this, I did it in 3.5 and the module I created on the left side (not sure what to call it) to contain all my personal libraries showed the word "demo".EvilDragon wrote:Demo mode only when done in Kontakt Player. Now I'm mostly on Mac, but I'd still be interested in learning another way to do it without it showing "demo" in the graphic.
By the way... congrats to both of you (Hollow Sun & Evil Dragon) on the upcoming release, it looks great!

Yep 3.5 is different than 4. If you do the same trick in K4, it will not show demo.
