MIDI control of Tempo?

Hi.

Is it possible to adjust tempo with MIDI. In other words, map a knob from a MIDI controller to change the Master Tempo in Cantabile?

Also, I've been wondering if it's possible wiht any versions of Cantabile (I'm just using Lite so far) to set up a "cross-fader", where the volumes of 2 channels or "Racks" are controlled simultaeneously:

1. responds non-linearly positive (exponential, so -3db at value 64 for both channels)
2. responds non-linearly inverse.

Thanks,
Jeff

Cantabile "Lite" does not have midi controller assignment. You need one of the commercial versions for that. But you can check out the 30 days trials for free.

In Cantabile Solo or Performer you can of course assign a midi controller to tempo via the metronome. However it might be fairly coarse considering just 128 value steps (7bit) versus a musical tempo range of probably greater than 50-250 bpm. So in general such an assignment isn't ideal...

Your questions also sound like you are looking for a DJ focused application. I am not sure if Cantabile is the right program for that. Wouldn't be dedicated DJ software the better and more hassle free solution?

To answer the other questions...

At the moment volume assignments can't be scaled by special curves, but that's a question that has occurred in other contexts as well. So may be we see such a feature some time... At the moment the center position will be aligned to 0dB. So only way to level is either globally, inside the racks or with "helper racks".

Basic cross fading is a bit tricky to set up but possible. Key point is to use a "controller map" filter at global or session level to create a second inverted controller. Assignment is a bit fiddly as you need to turn that off first during assignment of the first volume element and switch it on for the second. Finally you need to set up the "copy event" option to make it work for both.

Hope that helps.
