Just wanted to give the heads up on this, I just got it and I think it's great. Just what I've been looking for. It has "Touch-sensitive" drum pads, an X/Y pad and tilt control. Tried it with battery and it worked flawlessly. And the best of all: It's free! Will throw away my old Trigger Finger now.
Features:
- Supports USB MIDI over iPad Camera Adapter
- Supports Network MIDI over WiFi
- Touch sensitive drum pads (depends on vertical position and two-finger tap for full velocity, user-changeable)
- Four pages with 16 drum pads each
- Drum pad notes adjustable (tap on pad note symbol on bottom left, after that drag finger on pad up/down to change its note)
- One X/Y controller (big pad on bottom)
- Gravity controller (rotational axis of the iPad; Tap on rotation symbol on bottom left to activate, MIDI send light blinks every time you change the iPad's rotation)
- All controllers can change their MIDI controller number
- Rotational- and scroll-lock for drumpads (tap lock symbol)

Hi there,

this is Stefan, I wrote and designed MidiPadz Lite. If you have any questions or suggestions, let me know. I'd appreciate any input, since I have multiple ideas how to continue for the full version, but it's you who uses MidiPadz and your creativity should be supported...

Cheers,
Stefan

I just got this app and couldn't get it to speak with logic until I tapped on the note icon and turned it off (the icon, not the app). Works like a charm!

Davey: That's the note edit mode. No playing until it's disabled :)

Hi everybody, it's Stefan again. I currently work on the full version. It's got plenty of new features that are just waiting for you (like fully customizable pads and controls and two features probably completely new to drum pad controllers).

What I need are some helpers to test it for the release. Everybody who's willing to help will get a promo code for the full version (-> it's free for you). Contact me via PM :)

Cheers,
Stefan

Looks great but I can't get it to communicate with my macbook, I've gone through the network midi setup as per the instructions but the iPad doesn't show up in the directory and a manual add doesn't work.
Tested with my iMac which is connected to the same wireless router as the macbook and iPad and it shows up fine but still no sign of the iPad.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks. :help:

Hello there,

looks like Bonjour is not working for you. This is the protocol the iPad
and your Mac are using to see each other.

I haven't had this problem yet, so we should try two simple things.
First, we need to make sure your Bonjour is really running. Type
Command+Space for spotlight, and look for the activity monitor. Start it
and select "All processes" in the selection box on the right in the top
panel (left of "Filter" text box). After that, type "mdns" in the
"Filter" box. You should see as only process "mDNSResponder". If you
can't see it, Bonjour is disabled. This page describes how to enable it
again:
http://tech.karbassi.com/2007/11/06/leo ... responder/

If you HAVE it running and yet have this problem, make really sure that both
iPad and Mac are in the same network (in a common home network their IP addresses should only differ after the last point).

Again, for this situation (and really ONLY WHEN IPs are in the same
net), there are some descriptions in the net how to get around other
problems which hinder Bonjour from working:
http://culturedcode.com/things/wiki/ind ... _%28FAQ%29

Please try these things out and let me know if (and where) you were successful.

Hey,
Thanks for the advice, Bonjour is definitely running, as I said all 3 devices are on the same network subnet, connected to the same wireless router. The iMac and Macbook see each other fine in the network midi setup, shared iTunes library etc. so it's something specific to the iPad.
The iPad has an IP address and an internet connection so it seems to be ok.

I'll have a look at the link for further troubleshooting and let you know if I get it sorted out.

Thanks.

i'd be interested to test it.. does it run on iphone too?

Post

@mongo: Hmm... this is interesting. Seems to be a very special problem in your case. Keep me up to date.

@shane: Unfortunately no. In the beginning it should ONLY be an iphone version. But after I realized the possibilities of the larger screen, I just made it for the iPad (you really have to have used both iPhone and iPad for this to realize the difference). Still, the iPhone version is not lost forever. It's not just there yet ;)

Stefan, great work! I'm using your iPad app to play the iZotope iDrum plugin in Reaper on a MacBook via wireless MIDI on a private ad hoc network. Zero latency, excellent response. Thankyou!

I can't get this to work on Windows 7. Have followed all the instructions but i have the same problem as mongoosenz above.

Have you checked that Bonjour is installed? Have you checked everything with the firewall turned off (just to be sure)? Have you tried the other instructions above?

It also seems that there are some routers not properly distributing Bonjour packages in the network (Bonjour uses Multicast). To check if there's something wrong with your router, you could alternatively set up an ad-hoc network connection. This requires that your host machine includes a WLAN adapter. After setting up this network, connect your iPad with it. As far as I remember though,
the iPad only supports WEP encryption. So select that instead of WPA.
Instructions how to set up such a network are here:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... oc-network

After setting up the network, start it by clicking on the network symbol, select your new network and click "enable" (I guess that's translated correctly, have a german W7).

Greetings,
Stefan

Thanks for the quick reply. Aye i've tried it with the firewall disabled and also checked the services to see if bonjour is running which it is. Will try it with an ad-hoc network now :)

Ad-hoc network setup, now how do i got about getting Ableton to recognise things? :)

Post

So with Adhoc, the Midi connection works? You bought Ableton with a manual, I think ;). Anyway, there's an explanation for MacOS and Ableton, I think Ableton looks and works the same under Windows...
