problem with OP-X ProII in cantabile (solved)

Post

Hi,

I purchased OP-X ProII last days and observe a certain problem: I'm able to load up the plugin and also use it in cantabile but I'm bot able to load up a new bank.

I also tried in forte and cubase without problems. The funny thing is: in cantabile 64 (loads in bridged mode with jBridge) the functionality is available.

Did anybody observe a similar behavior or can tell me a solution?

Hi

Just looked into this - you are right, there is something wrong.

The only thing I got working is loading single patches within OP-XII pro's own browsing while having "load entire bank" set in Cantabile. Just switching sounds does take so long - presumably the bank exchange process takes that long.

When I try to load banks or patches via Cantabile's editor I get version mismatch errors... (with banks / batches shipped with OP-XII pro)

Did you sent a bug report to Brad?

Works fine here but then I'm running 64bit.

Hi,

thanks for your replies. Meanwhile I did some further tests:

- cpu load seems to be much higher than in Cubase or forte
- when I open up the "save bank" dialog the folder where the factory banks are stored opens up as expected (means: the plugin seems to "know" where the banks can be found)
- when try to load a bank via "open program" dialog in the left top of the plugin window I can chose a bank. After trying to load it I get an error message: "The following error(s) have occured: VST Plugin- OP-X Pro-II - failed to load preset - version mismatch"
- when I select another patch than sound 1 and push the bank load button sound 1 is dialed
- meanwhile I observed 2 complete crashes of win7 (one with a blue screen - last time I had this is years ago!)
- I deinstalled the plugin 2 times and followed the advice I found on the faq on the Sonic Project webpage.

@TiUser: no, I didn't report this to Brad till now. It's always a problem to find an indication if the problem is concerned to the plugin or the host (cantabile works with every other plugin I use without problems on the one hand, OP-X also works with 2 other hosts without problems on the other hand).

Nevertheless: I think I'll contact brad and also give the developers of OP-X a hint on this problem.

Hi humphrey
I'm going to check it out

Do you have these problems only when trying to load presets/banks with the file menue of cantabile, or does this also happen when using the patch browser of OP-X PRO-II?

I'm asking because in fact it makes no sense to use anything else than the integrated patch browser to load and save patches and banks, since this browser and too the whole presets system is fully fxb/fxp based; so you even could import fxbs and fxps from anywhere else than the central library location
- when I select another patch than sound 1 and push the bank load button sound 1 is dialed
This is no error, it's conceived to be like that; before loading a new bank the preset number is being reset to the first one, so that the new bank is loaded correctly (correct order of presets)
- failed to load preset - version mismatch"
What presets/banks were you trying to load? Did you use the patch browser?

Hi Peter,

thanks for your quick reply. I already replied to your mail you sent to my private e-mail address. So here only additional information:

the error message was produced with any bank I tried to load. But please keep in mind that this is not the integrated in OP-X Pro II for loading banks but the dialog implemented in cantabile.

Meanwhile I also reported the problem to Brad (cantabile).

Kind regards, humphrey

Reply from OP-X mastermind himself... :tu:

I can basically confirm humphrey's observations with the error message.

Another oddity is that when I work with the same bank and select a sound in Cantabile, subsession changes seem to work. Looks like mess starts when I select another bank and preset in OP-XII.

Stupid idea, but could it be that in that case when using the plugins browser the batch / bank change is not reported back to the host?

Additionally and as already reported - when using the "entire bank" option in cantabile reloading a new bank in OP-XII is exceptionally slow.

Same here...I use it all the time with 64 bit Cantabile and jBridge, and have never had a problem with it...

So, it seems to be some kind of problem with the 32 bit version...

Very strange indeed!

Ah, thanks for the reply. Good to know it's not so special.

Btw: I can't use the 64Bit version due to instabilities of another 32 plug in jBridge (EOS - shows extreme cpu loads sometimes).

Peter had contacted me on my private e-mail adress and clearified some circumstances meanwhile. He is working on it (great support to be busy on new years day btw!).

I'll keep you informed if I have any news,

Hi,

I think my problem is solved. I also reported this to Peter from Sonic Project so I only release a copy of this mail here:

Hi Peter,

I just had the idea that probably an earlier version of cantabile could have less problems, so I downgraded and OP-X Pro-II worked flawlessly. Then I upgraded to the latest version again to verify this was the reason and what can I say? It also worked now without problems! I did some more tests (some starts of cantabile, calling up different banks, shut down of cubase and restart,.... The result is that OP-X Pro-II runs without problems.

So I can only apologize for all the inconvenience and the lost working-time and a big big thank you for your incredible support.

Kind regards, humphrey

Also many thanks for your support and kind regards to the forum,

Glad you're sorted. I'm loving OPX Pro II here.

That's a bit odd. I still get an error message when loading via Cantabile's vst editor.

My guess is there is a problem with the plugin id in the patch or bank compared to the plugin's own id.

Otherwise sound selections work in Cantabile when I do not change a bank with subsession changes - as this needs the slow "subsession entire bank" option to be set.

So I am still not sure what is resolved by now and what not.

Hi TiUser,

I think we had a misunderstanding here:

my main problem was I was not able to load a bank via the "LOAD" Button on the survace of the instrument (not the load dialog implemented in the top of the instrument window - this is what you abviously mean). This first ptoblem had gone after I reinstalled cantabile (must have been damaged in some way).

What was not cured is the misbehavior you describe. This is another problem and still there!

The good news is Brad contacted me meanwhile and described a little workaround that solved even this issue for me.

I asked Brad to allow me to post it here but got no answer till now. But I think it should not be a secret and a good solution for other OP-X users - so I add a copy to this thread:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hi Volker,

Thanks for reporting this problem. Could you please try the follow and confirm if it fixes the problem. In the folder where Cantabile is installed there should be file named Compatibility.ini. Edit this file (you may need to run notepad as administrator) and add the following line to the bottom:

Plugin4f505055=16 ; SonicProjects OPX - don't check fxb/p version number

Restart Cantabile and see if the problem still exists.

I could imagine this line could be part of new updates probably released in the future. However: many thanks to Brad for his help.

I have vista 64 bit, Jbridge and when click on Cantabile edit plug in (only with OP-X Pro II) for the first time, everything is ok. If I close it and click again on edit then Cantabile crashes with message "Dispatcher opcode 14 failed".

All other 32bit VSTs are ok, no problems!
Instruments: Omnisphere, Trilian, Stylus RMX, Komplete 5 & 6, Addictive Drums, OP-X Pro-II

Oh, indeed... In my case I have no problem using OP-X II's internal patch and bank browsers, these work fine for me.

I know about the compatibility file but never edited it. Did you already try the fix you talked about and did it work for you?

BTW I love the OP-X line, I have them all but I also sometimes found little oddities. It does not work great with jBridge for instance. But it simply sounds so good and comes with so many great patches...
