I downloaded a demo version of Cantabile 2 to a Presario laptop running Vista.
I'm unable to get acceptable sound output. When asked to identify my audio driver I'm given four choices; Conexant SmartAudio 221 (came with computer), ASIO4ALLv2 which I downloaded thinking I had no ASIO. Then there are two other ASIOs which must have been on the computer; ASIO Direct X Full Duplex and ASIO Multimedia. I've tried them all and each has an associated problem. With ASIO Multimedia there is extreme delay in both input to effects and output from instruments. In ASIO Direct X there is low lantency and the output from VSTi works fine but there is no Input from my external instrument showing on the input meter or sound coming out. In ASIO4ALL I can see sound registering in both input and output meters or windows but I get no sound through the speakers. With the SmartAudio chosen I get sound but there is still more latency than I want and I can't get any volume without creating feedback. This is strange because I'm using a Yamaha digital trumpet with my mouth covering the sound source so it couldn't pick up speaker noises. It also feedbacks with head phones. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Cantabile 2; Need help getting acceptable sound from effects and instruments

Hi,
first of all: did you disable any other sound-sources (windows-sounds, media-player,...)? Otherwise these applications grab the soundcard and asio will be disabled.
Concerning other audio-drivers: the disadvantages you observe are probably normal (long latencies, no input).
Concerning the asio4all driver: this really is a fine peace of software ---- for 95% of the soundcards out there, but keep in mind it's not a solution for any problem. I found a thread where some users report a similar problem with the combination you try to run. Here is the link:

probably it can be of some help,
regards and good luck, humphrey
