It's a pretty common sound, mostly used in Electro House. If any of you aren't familiar with the song(you should be ashamed) here's the link:

the lead/bassline at 0:40sec or the sax? the sax is a sample from an old 80s song

It is ? I always thought it was an Ensoniq ESQ1 or similar. You do know this song is originally from the 80ies, right ? The sax line is the same in the original.allcentury wrote:the sax is a sample from an old 80s song

'1990's time for the guru', think it was 1990 the original release and the sax was original to my knowledge....jupiter8 wrote:It is ? I always thought it was an Ensoniq ESQ1 or similar. There was an earlier release in 1989. With the same sax line i might add. And without the annoying rapping.breakmixer wrote:'1990's time for the guru', think it was 1990 the original release and the sax was original to my knowledge....jupiter8 wrote:It is ? I think that was fake. It sounds quite synthesized and thin, nothing like a real sax but then again i've been wrong before.hakey wrote:I remember seeing the original performed on TOTP with a geezer 'playing' sax.

you guys are right, i apologize. I remixed Fonzerelli's take on this track and was thinking they both sampled from the same track but i believe the sax is original to GJP

Tried to recreate it with the SQ8L since my original hunch was an Ensoniq. Can't really claim i nailed but it ain't too far away.

Well.......both. I modified a preset that was closeish. Made so many changes back and forth i don't know how close to the original preset it is anymore.breakmixer wrote:was it a preset or your own creation?jupiter8 wrote:http://www.box.net/shared/g6k0nsonmf

It is the brass waveform 2 or 3 times slightly detuned. Might have used a saw, don't remember. Couldn't quite get the nasal quality of the original track so i eq:ed it a bit (8 db boost, frequency by ear). There's no hipass or bandpass filters on the SQ80. Slap on a big tasty verb courtesy of Bootsie Epicverb (funny i did not like it until just now) and that's pretty much it.
