There are over 50 new refills coming for Reason 4 & 5 from Sonic Reality as part of our Premium Refills series. These are collections mostly based on more specific instrument groups. They may also make their way to other formats as well but for years we started our initial layout in Reason but so much of it has never been released until now.

One of them is the Squids Tron Collection. We originally released that in SampleTank for a Group Buy and it became so popular that we made a popular plug-in with IK called "SampleTron" that featured most of the sounds from the Squids Tron Collection plus some extras. Now, we're revisiting our "Tron Archives" and discovering that we have more Mellotron, Chamberlin and Optigan samples that haven't been released yet plus a more thorough resampling of Optigan grooves with new discs. You can watch a fun little video taken during a sample session just last night (the video is just me playing around... enjoy the ending haha).

Anyway, in the digging we've found some really rare stuff including tapes from a guy named "Sandy" who worked at Chamberlin and I bought a bunch of Prototypes from years ago (crazy little story about driving out to the middle of nowhere from LA). So we're pulling all of that stuff out and releasing them first as refills for Reason. Then maybe Kontakt and other formats.

I'm thinking about possibly doing a group buy where the more people join the more stuff we dig up and throw in. All depends on the interest for that. If you guys think you can spread the word like mad then this could be a fun one. Just like the classic original Squids Tron Group Buy I have a few parts from these trons we can give away as swag too. That was a fun thing we did years ago.

Also found a bunch of unreleased Miroslav orchestral material that was never in the Miroslav Refills or Philharmonik. Mostly alternate performances and even some effects and riffs. That'll be part of the series as well.

Cool, Squids. I look forward to the release of those libraries (in KONTAKT format, in my case).

Funny, after watching that video, I re-watched one of your old videos for the Sampletron (). You made the understatement of the decade contrasting lugging around a Mellotron or Novatron with using Sampletron, "...Even in a flight case -- no matter how you dress it up, it's just nowhere near as convenient as Sampletron." I laughed at that one. I don't think anyone who is not mechanically skilled (or have a dedicated keyboard tech), and interested in using those skills on a regular basis, is much better suited to Sampletron than lugging around an actual/physical Tron.

Reason hmmm? you just made my decision on Ocean Way Drums SE Complete Vol. 1-3 Refill for Reason easier. It's been a while since a good GB

Yeah it would be fun to do another GB. It has been awhile. We have to see if people still like grouping their way toward lower prices or more bang for the buck.

In any case, we're spreading the sounds around amongst the formats here. A lot of new releases coming that haven't been announced. The Squids Tron material for Reason and Kontakt will be nice for a start. But there's also other cool keyboards, guitars, basses, more drums and other instruments many of which have never been released in any format. Years of development finally seeing the light of day. I'm excited to use it myself! I got lost for a couple hours playing through the material today. Makes you just want to start writing immediately.

Any ETA on the Tron refill for Reason?

Btw, would be very interested in a high quality sampled Rhodes. Will that be part of the Premium series?

Post

Yes. In fact our approach to new Reason refills (the Premium series anyway) will be more individual groups of instruments so the Tron collection would be broken down by Mellotron, Chamberlin etc. ETA on this and other instruments including many different types of Rhodes is next month through the end of the year and beyond. Lots of cool refills coming out.
