Hi anyone.

Just an enquiry, I know nothing about this new topic, in my studio.

So with help, can any one suggest a way to buy and get a cheap tablet possibly a 7 . 10 " android tablet to work as controller.

What's the low down on the budget way to have fun with your fingers. (Oooo Matron) :hihi: :D

As far as I can tell the Android tablets aren't significantly cheaper than the iPad and the selection of midi apps is far, far smaller. I like Android a lot in general but it's got a lot of catching up to do with the iPad when it comes to midi and audio.

Thanks, for the heads up.

I'm just trying to get the feelers out on what I wan't to do with one.

Of course apps that are specific for Vsti, such as Twisted Tools, Scapes. have to be written type specific, where as generic ones for your DAW can be less complicated.

Despite iPad being a mac machine, it works ok over usb to pc's then? just like an ipod. I guess. It's funny how things get past you, I never thought of Mac's and Pc's getting allong together. (Makes you wonder why the user's have such differing opinions about the machines they choose to use, the machines seem fairly impartial.. :hihi: ).

You've gotta kind of hope that developers choose to release touch pad variants, for at least 2 or more OS

ipad & Android. Android more than likely having limitations iPad offering more.

Ok

Cheers..

I'd argue Android tablets can be had a lot cheaper than iPads, budget 7" ones can be found for under £100, around a quarter the price of a basic ipad?

Not saying the quality is as good but if you want cheap... Proably won't be multi-touch either.

But there are midi controller apps availble (quick google: http://thesundancekid.net/blog/fingerplay-midi/) that will turn one into a simple midi controller.

Yeah the iPad itself should work fine with a pc. You might need a third party app to do midi over wireless though. I haven't tried it myself yet.

Get a used ipad1 for about $300 US.
Then get Touch OSC or AC-7.

Indeed, thanks, I was looking at the cheaper market £100 for comparison, as I know nothing of what the two options can do, it's a gamble on wether or not the android market will catch up, or if indeed it can catch up, this Touch OSC seems as though may very well become a kind of standard, like VST became, though I may be talking out of my a** :o :D

indeed the 2nd hand market will also get stronger so it's maybe best to gamble a little on e-bay, if only I made money from music and it wasn't a hobbie, I could bank on my live performance being more interesting for the audience and justify the purchase.

The whole WiFi, is turning me right off anyway, unless it's usb, I'm not interestead.

I ought to say unless it's dedicated Wirless sender to usb receiver hub, that would be acceptable. looks look I should get my soldering iron out then.. :D

Thanks for all the replies and opinions. very helpful..

:P
