Does Liveslice allow stacking samples?

Hello,
I have posted a similar question in KVR but had little response.
By searching on Google I located Liveslice. This program may be
Able to accomplish my sample manipulation scheme.
To start with Melodyne Editor and to some extent Melodyne Studio
Can do much of what I require. See my posts

For me the ideal would be if Melodyne Studio allowed samples to overlap to build polyhony. This however Is not the case so I am looking for a work-around.
One major requirement is that I can paste audio samples on a track freely even if the samples overlap. Can this be done in Liveslice?
I will be using this for composing primarily probably inside Cubase 6.
It seems all the samples (slices) are pasted on an audio track. The overlapping samples are translucent? Is there a piano roll with the samples with their tonal center similar to Melodyne? What I am after is polyphony with many overlapping samples on a single track as in classical music where loops will not be used often.
I suspect I have the whole idea of what LiveSlice does all wrong. In that case I apologize for wasting your time. If however you can offer an alternative that would be welcome.

Well, LiveSlice gives you patterns which can contain several tracks. When a sample of one track still plays, you can start another one in another track.Kalamata Kid wrote:One major requirement is that I can paste audio samples on a track freely even if the samples overlap. No piano roll in LS. LS is supposed to slice samples and works best with beats. But you can use it for other audio as well. There's a pitch envelope though, for every slice in every track of every pattern.Kalamata Kid wrote:It seems all the samples (slices) are pasted on an audio track. This can be accomplished, but with several tracks in 1 pattern.Kalamata Kid wrote:What I am after is polyphony with many overlapping samples on a single track as in classical music where loops will not be used often.
I suggest you try the demo.. when you want to buy it, I suggest to use Share*it, as recently users didn't get the full version using PayPal.

Hi R.A.W.,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
This is what caught my eye
"* optional semitransparent slice display (see through overlapping slices)"
http://making-music.blogspot.com/2007/0 ... -v145.html
From this quote I assume that samples (slices) can be freely placed anywhere on an audio track even if the samples overlap. Is this so or it means something other than what I think it means.
That the samples overlap on other audio tracks, well that is so on all DAW's. Placing samples on many tracks will mess up my workflow.

LS is not a DAW, it's a VST plugin. Tbh I don't really know if it can do all that you want as I never tried... I use LS to slice beats.Kalamata Kid wrote:That the samples overlap on other audio tracks, well that is so on all DAW's. Placing samples on many tracks will mess up my workflow.
You really should try the demo, that way you can see if it does what you need instead of just taking the word of people who might misunderstand what you want.

R.A.W.,
The DAW was used only to say that if I wanted to have samples overlap it can easily be done in any DAW using a separate track for the samples that overlap. In other words I would not be searching for a VST to do that.
It seems that slices cannot overlap on a single track so no reason to even try a demo.
Thank you again for your help.

You can overlap slices on an individual track (see track 3 in the screenshot).
But there is no need, just use multiple tracks (tracks 1 and 2 in the screenshot).

If you decide to buy, make sure you get in touch with ohm first. I've not seen him here recently and LiveSlice was last updated in April 2009.

Hi DarkStar,
For me the ideal would be if Melodyne Studio allowed samples to overlap to build polyphony.
I want samples whether notes or chords on a piano roll on a single track with the tonal center on the correct note. I want to be able freely move the notes or chords and to overlap them. Unfortunately neither Melodyne Studio nor Melodyne Editor can do this.
I was looking for a work-around and thought granted a long shot but perhaps I can use LiveSlice to do this. I cannot see how I can do this conveniently but I will keep it in mind.
